Did the doctor mention folic acid? They should do...

Really a GP's appointment (when you first BFP) IS a huge anti-climax - unless you have an amazing GP...

Also watch out for those receptionists... my GP told me to make a booking in appointment with the receptionist. I did (was about 4.5 weeks at the time) and made it for 8.5 weeks. Turned up for my booking in appointment to find that the receptionist had booked me in for a "MW check-up appointment" (only 15-20 minutes) rather than a "Booking in appointment" (about an hour). So the MW couldn't do my booking in appointment (nowhere NEAR enough time!)! Fortunately she could book me in for 5 days later... BUT my husband has taken time away from work for that original appointment - so a real pain

That is frustrating when the receptionist could have just made you an appointment with the midwife!

this annoys me because i work in a GP surgery and common sense says why see the doctor if you have midwifes that come to the practice! I think sometimes receptionist just can be bothered with the extra hassell of making you another appointment. Whenever ladies phone here and say they are pregnant i will just say to them have they had a positive PG test and if so then put them in with the midwife.

I know in the old days in my place of work they normally saw the doctor first, as it was the doctor who referred them but nowadays at our surgery the midwifes do all the referring so bypassing the doctor is a good idea, as you said a waste of time!

xx

Wish you worked at my doctor's surgery - sounds like you have a sensible head on your shoulders...
