I didn't buy anything like that (expect nappies) so was very lucky to receive a box as a present full of everything i could possibly need! Baby wash, oil, shampoo, cotton wool etc. I can honestly say i have just ran out of baby shampoo and my daughter is 2, i had that much bought for me ha!
However i will buy some this time just incase i don't get the same gift again, shampoo, baby wash, cotton wool, baby scissors, wipes, nappy bags, suda creme and infacol...erm can't think of anything else off the top of my head!! :-)

One thing I never seem to have enough of are soft little baby washcloths. Those can be really cute and it doesn't really matter for colours gender-wise and they never outgrow them, so they're one of those "safe" things to buy!

Baby nail clippers-- you can get the nail scissors with nail clippers in the same package; I find the scissors don't work as well on Elyse's nails, you just have to be careful not to catch the skin with the clippers!
Batteries lol. Sounds silly but lots of baby toys & baby equipment take batteries (bouncy chair, baby monitors, mobiles, etc)... I'm afraid of running out of the batteries for her favourite things!

Bolding things I'd say YES you need IMO, I'll put things I add in italics.
In the Nursery • Cot • Cot mattress and waterproof mattress liner.*try to find a mattress that is waterproof IYKWIM it's easier than a liner, you just take the fitted sheet off if it gets wet/dirty and wash, then wipe the mattress* • Cot sheets and soft "bumpers" wouldn't say bumper pads are a must, a lot of times they are cautioned against, SIDs risk • Small, soft toys for play.don't get all soft plushy toys, Elyse's first toys were plastic links-- first things that fit in her hands & mouth • Receiving blankets for cool evenings.and for burping, swaddling
• Changing cot top *not sure what this is, lol. • complete with a supply of nappies, wipes, ointment, powder and a sealable rubbish bin nearby. • Rocking chair for feeding and soothing. • First aid kit including thermometer. • Nasal aspirator. • Baby monitor.
In the Bath • Newborn/infant tub.not 100% necessary but nice to have; you can bring baby in with you if you prefer! I have a "Bath Eze".. it's a bath support thing, much easier than using the tub IMO • Washcloths.
• Mild soap. I don't use baby soap, find it dries skin out.. I use Johnsons Head to Toe or Huggies baby wash
• Bath toy. Don't need for awhile • Lotions, oil and/or baby powder.Definitely baby lotion, you only need to use baby oil really if your baby has cradle cap (even then you can use olive oil instead!) and personally I have not used baby powder yet. It's nice for putting on the neck to make sure it's all dry, etc. but not a necessity • Baby nail clippers. • Hooded towels for keeping your baby warm and dry after their bath.
For Feeding • Bibs. • Bottles and nipples. • Formula.
• Breast pump
• Breast milk storage bags.
• Bottle sterilizer
• Nursing bras.
• Breast pads and shields
• Nipple cream for Mum ^ Can't comment on breastfeeding items, only formula items.. if you do formula I'd say a bottle brush is good to have! Don't need a fancy sterilizer or bottle warmer
For a Trip to the Great Outdoors • Car seat. • Pram. • Sling. • Umbrella and blankets to bundle baby in. • Infant sunscreen and sun hat. some infant sunscreens (most) say 6 month + • Soft toy for company.again really you just take their favourite
Just For Fun
• Camera.
• Baby book.
• Ink for baby's first hand and foot prints.
• Frames for baby's first photos Of course all of those are optional items but nice to have.
Other things I thought of- bouncy chair, I have a vibrating one, works wonders! mobile, Elyse really enjoys it, music, motion, colour.. playpen, really convenient to have one. I like being able to have her napping on the main floor of our home where I am rather than leaving her upstairs on her own, less running for me if she cries, lol.
