Craving Carbs

I am 8 weeks - 9 weeks on Monday and have been craving carbs for weeks. I have always been small in frame and never really eaten a lot of carbs. The sickness thing kicked in around week 4 and have been finding eating really hard and the only things I can stomach are bread (pizza, sandwiches, croissants), potatoes, pasta etc. with very basic flavours e.g. tomato sauce. Anyone else had any similar cravings?

Can't wait for the sickness to pass - I feel exhausted!

Hi BondiGal

I've sneaked over from the 2nd trimester - nearly 16 weeks now. All I really wanted at first was carbs and more carbs. Jacket potatoes, bread, crumpets pasta etc were the only things that stopped me feeling hungry. I could eat tonnes of fruit and would still be starving until I had some carbs.
It has got a bit better - now I want protein as well but am I still mainly craving carbs.

Try to eat a small amount reguarly so your blood sugar doesn't drop too much - that can make the sickness worse and if you're worried about putting on weight have enough carbs to statisfy your body but make sure you listen to when it's full. I found it was really easy to just keep eating as it took ages for my tummy to tell me it wasn't hungry anymore even though I'd eaten loads.

Hi there
Yeah same here. For the first 10 weeks or so I ate nothing but bread. But now I'm eating more fruit and veg and it's actually more satifying now (nearly 14 weeks).
I think in early pregnancy you should just eat what you can and what you want.
Enjoy :0)

I wouldn't say that I particularly "crave" these things, BUT they are the main things that I eat because most of the other stuff I find hard to face. Carbs don't taste or smell funny...

Muesli is always ok, toast, toasted cheese sandwiches, jacket potatoes, pasta with simple tomato sauce, pizza... easy to cook, doesn't smell (nasty) when cooking, doesn't taste odd.

In contract I am struggling with meat and most fish and I prefer raw vegetables to cooked vegetables... just smell and texture...

I am trying to keep the fat down (i.e. "easy on the cheese" and picking the lower fat pizza options etc) and I am still exercising, so I am not hugely concerned, BUT I hope that my appetite returns to normal soon...

I am normally on SUCH a balanced diet... I find it easier to eat a more balanced meal out - because I don't have to smell it cooking...

I am a Carboholic! Apparently bubs needs carbohydrate to maintain steady growth and development xxx

QT, don't cut down too much on the cheese hon, if you don't get enough calcium then bubs willl take it from your own reserves and you'll have probs with your teeth and bones as a result. Midwife warned me the other day xxx

I used to eat tons of salads and at 7 weeks couldn't face them at all. All I wanted or could eat without getting grossed out was carbs for weeks. I ate potatoes for a solid week! I even sliced them on sandwiches!! LOL!! I have recently started with more variety again, but am now on the pickle and spice wagon.
