I've had horses my entire life up until recently. Personally, I would not risk riding as much as I love it. Any horse, even bomb proof horses can get spooked for unknown reasons and if you end up on the ground...that could be bad.

Now groundwork...I'd keep on trucking along with that. Good luck!

Hi hun,

I have my own horse... see my avatar. I gave up as soon as I fell pregnant and my friend took over the riding and competing her for me. I also lunged a few times a week to keep her ticking over. With horses there is always a risk involved even when you know your horse so well they can be unpredictable animals. I wouldn't risk riding while pg, as some of the girls here have said it's not worth it and I wouldn't ever forgive myself if something happened.

As for the yard duties I would carry on with those, I just did half wheel barrows when mucking out so not to push too much around. Grooming etc you should be OK with.

I think once your baby is born you will be glad of having your horse as a hobby to go back to enjoy some 'me' time.

Unfortunately for me I have just had a mmc so have just got back in the saddle again ... got to be honest it was fantastic to be back on board and if I hadnt have had her to come back and have some escape from the grief I dont know what I would do. Horses are great

Good luck with everything x

I'm an experienced rider, and here is what happened to me:

Had a bad accident

I am very lucky that my baby survived.

I would never consider riding or being near a horse while pregnant but thats my own personal choice. Accidents happen rather you expect them or not, to me its not worth losing my baby over.

Hi to duffy, sorry you are right accidents do happen "i would never consider being near a horse while pregnant" i think thats a bit extreme considering you can have an accident anywhere you could be walking in the park and a big dog could come and jump on your stomach, or you could innocently bang into something. I dont think me going to see my horse is me willing to lose my unborn child i think with that kind of opinion why even go out the door? thanks for your opinion all the same though x

my mum kept horse riding through all of her pregnancies and was fine, there are risks though so you have to weigh it up and if you are comfortable then you should carry on

This has been interesting. I exercise my friend's horses every weekend. I trust them both completely. They're mother and daughter and have the most gorgeous temperaments (contradicting the chestnut Arab mare stereotypes!). I've not ridden for the past couple of weekends since getting my BFP but that's been due to being away both weekends. Now she's expecting me tomorrow but I'm starting to get cold feet. I know neither of them would through me off but accidents *can* happen. I know I'd feel awful if anything did happen. I'd only be going for a hack and I think one has put her back out so I'd be going on my own so would be able to control where I went and keep it steady.

The thing is I'm only 6+4 so we haven't told anyone yet. If I don't ride she'll probably be a bit miffed at the short notice and I don't know what excuse to give her!

Do people think it best to wait until the 2nd trimester to get back in the saddle then?

Gorgeous horses in avatars by the way. I'm especially fond of coloureds alibaba!

Hiya again iv personally decided not to ride but i did speak to a doc about it on my last pregnancy and they said 2nd tri would be ok but 1st is always the old "danger period" and with 3rd tri it cause baby is heavier theres more pulling etc i think its totally up to the indivdual and wouldnt pass judgement on people who do or do not ride while pregnant i know a women who rode up to 8 months without a prob!! ... and thanks for saying about niquita this is my 1st coloured horse people didnt like her cause she has one blue eye but i think shes goreous
