In UK & wanting info on scans/midwife appointments

Hello there! I am new here and 5 weeks and 6 days pregnant today. I have my first midwife appointment booked for 13th August (12 weeks stage), and was told that I would get details of when my scan would be in the post but may be before or after this date.

My questions are:

If it normal to wait for this long before having a midwife appoinment (have had nothing but home pregnancy kit so far)?

How long does it take for them to give you your scan date? It has been a week since I phoned the midwife.

Thanks for your help - I am new and don't really understand the process!

Emma x

The process seems to vary quite a lot in different locations. I'm in Edinburgh, and my first midwife appointment and first scan are booked for the same day, both at about 13 weeks.

The booking in appts in my area is usually done between 10-12 weeks but I wasn't told this until I arrived for my appointment and I was only 7 weeks! At my appt I was given a form and details of the hospital and told to ring up the hospital myself and book the scan.

Hope you get your scan date through soon

I saw midwife at 8 weeks and had to wait three and a half weeks for my scan. Some people get their scans before they see the midwife, it's weird.

I've been told 8-12 weeks for first midwife appointment and 11-13 weeks for first scan. I guess there's such a big window where midwife appointment can happen to take into account the midwives workload, for example late August / early September 9 months after christmas the midwives are gonna be doing a lot of post natal visits.
