In UK & wanting info on scans/midwife appointments
Hello there! I am new here and 5 weeks and 6 days pregnant today. I have my first midwife appointment booked for 13th August (12 weeks stage), and was told that I would get details of when my scan would be in the post but may be before or after this date.
My questions are:
If it normal to wait for this long before having a midwife appoinment (have had nothing but home pregnancy kit so far)?
How long does it take for them to give you your scan date? It has been a week since I phoned the midwife.
Thanks for your help - I am new and don't really understand the process!
The process seems to vary quite a lot in different locations. I'm in Edinburgh, and my first midwife appointment and first scan are booked for the same day, both at about 13 weeks.
It is different everywhere I am only along the road from sekhmet in Fife and I have my midwifes appointment (in my house eek) on Saturday 8+4 and then my scan on the 27th July at 11+6
The booking in appts in my area is usually done between 10-12 weeks but I wasn't told this until I arrived for my appointment and I was only 7 weeks! At my appt I was given a form and details of the hospital and told to ring up the hospital myself and book the scan.
Hi hun it varys throughout the uk... ive lived in 3 diff places 2 scotland and currently just outside of blackpool im super high risk so things a done diff for me but my friends and family tend to have their 1st booking at home at 8-10wks then a scan at 10-14wks for dating and another at 20 weeks. But it can take a good few wks to get ur appointments out in post so i wouldnt worry if u havnt hurd by 11wks id give them a call x
I've been told 8-12 weeks for first midwife appointment and 11-13 weeks for first scan. I guess there's such a big window where midwife appointment can happen to take into account the midwives workload, for example late August / early September 9 months after christmas the midwives are gonna be doing a lot of post natal visits.
