Aww hun , just think not everyone finds out so early that they are pregnant. So some people don't take it til like 8-9wks some people none at all. You get folic acid from some foods but not enough which is why we're given the tablets. My 1st pregnancy i took them from 9wks ish til 12wks , then with this pregnancy i took them from 4wks to about 8wks as they were making me really sick.

To much pressure is put on new pregnant ladies these days to do this, that & eat this not that it's not fair & you only realise this after birth or when you have another child.

some people dont take it at all so starting taking it as soon as you can is better than never. I didnt start taking it with Alex until I got my at about 5 weeks pregnant and he was born a perfectly healthy little boy. Worrying will probs do more harm than not taking it for the first few weeks. Wishing you a happy and healthy 9 months and beyond xxx

LOADS of people!

A lot of pregnancies aren't planned and/or people don't know to take folic acid until a few weeks into their pregnancy - very, very common!

Best thing is to start taking the recommended dose straight away and do so until at least the MW says it is ok to stop (about 14 weeks), but a lot of women take it throughout pregnancy (it is part of my pregnancy multi-vit tablet, so I will be one of them).

Don't worry - there are lots of things that we don't or do do before we know we were pregnant (like go to a wine tasting evening and drink loads of wine and eat loads of blue/soft cheeses ). You can't "undo what is done, you can only do your best from now on"

5 + 3 is still VERY early... so just get on taking the folic acid and don't worry.

I didn't find out until I was about 8 weeks so only took mine for a few weeks. i also got really bad sickness so I doubt I actually kept many of them down anyway.

I mentioned it to my midwife and she said just taking one is better than none at all!

I didnt find out til 6 (or 10 weeks dependant!) I didnt take folic acid at all with my son. 5+3 is still barely pregnant so taking it now will do plenty of good. Mine is also part of my daily pregnancy supplement so I will continue to take it through pregnancy and breastfeeding.

Ahhh, they are great! A group of us have been having them for YEARS (well about once a year). Everyone takes a bottle and then we all taste (ok DRINK a very small glass) and score and comment on them all. We also take along cheeses (amazing, fab, non-pregnancy-friendly mostly cheeses) and eat them with the wine

I think that it might be a "post baby" friendly activity too: we could do things like that at our place (with the baby, hopefully, asleep upstairs). After I have finished breast feeding, of course

Last one was a few days before I conceived (you never know, might have helped! ).

I am also a HUGE sushi fan and would have eaten fresh sushi probably 3 or 4 times in the weeks up to my BFP.

There is nothing you can do after the fact, so...

(ok, I could have not eaten sushi or drank whilst TTC, but since it took us about a year that would have been VERY boring! )
