Bleeding - do you normally get a scan?

Hi All,

Just wondered what the norm is for bleeding in your 9th week. Do you normally get offered a scan or do they use the wait and see approach? I'm 8+3.
I bled yesterday (more than spotting) and it's stopped mostly now. The thing that is worrying me is that I am getting some mild cramping. I have an appointment with the gp today, but having spoken to the mw, I don't think they'll be offering me a scan. Do I just accept this might be the case or do I try and persuade them otherwise? I have 4 weeks until my first NHS scan and I can't afford to lose any more weight due to worry.

Thanks
Rx

As far as I'm aware, it's pretty standard to be given a scan just to make sure everything looks ok. I'd stress to your GP how worried you are and see if they'll refer to your local EPU. So sorry you're having to go through this stress.

Thanks for your reply. No sadly it was more than just wiping. There was a fair amount on my panty liner, dark red rather than bright red. I appreciate they can't do anything if I am going to lose it, but I just would like to know what is going on.

The instructions here (but not all doctors are good at telling you!) is to self-refer straight to the EPU/EPAC (it is an early pregnancy drop in clinic for bleeding/pain).

This is my story from yesterday - Bleeding, quick trip to EPAC, ok though (phew!)

I bled (a little) Sunday night. Husband and Ii just turned up to the EPAC first thing Monday morning (it is only open Mon-Fri 8-9am)

Lots of

Either self-refer or demand a referral - no messing around: they should scan you.

Take care

Thank you so much! I see have one at the local hospital. On reading the "when to go to an EPU" list, I tick 2 of the boxes. So I'm now armed with the info I need when talking to the GP and if they don't refer me I'll be off there on my own (why are OH always away when these things happen?!!)
You guys are such a great help.

Thanks all. I'm booked in on Friday morning. Luckily my OH can come too as he's off shift.
For once a male gp was actually more helpful than the midwife. And he said all the right things and was lovely. Makes me feel like I'm being taken seriously. I need to go straight to a&e if it gets worse.
Going to take today off but debating on going back to work tomorrow to take my mind off things!!
I know I wanted an early scan, but I really didn't want it to be for this reason, lol.
I'm just praying that I can return to this thread on Friday with good news!!
Once again thank you for all your kind words (particularly to someone who does more lurking than posting).
