It finally happened. One of my loving cats got spooked by something and ran across my bare lap at full speed...which resulted in me receiving quite a few deep scratches.
I haven't been scratched this bad in years.
I flipped out, ran screaming into the bathroom, used antibacterial soap and then poured rubbing alcohol over the cuts. My husband got out the first aid kit and I put a fresh bandage over the worst cut which was dripping blood.
I swear I haven't been cut that bad in ages.
Anyways, I'm trying no to flip myself out any further. I've done what I can do. Washed it and sanitized it.
Sigh. I'm still going to worry about it until it heals up.
I wish I'd never heard of Catch Scratch Fever. Sigh.

Thanks Hyp-
I cleansed the scratches really good again this morning with some more rubbing alcohol and they seem to be ok. They scabbed over really nice and are not abnormally sore or red.

If you're worried about toxoplasmosis, you can ask your doctor to test you for it. Explain to him that you've been at risk and that you're really worried. There's a good chance you're immune so don't worry! And even if you catch it, there are remedies for the disease...

Yes they are inside. I'm not worried about Toxo- I was tested for that last week and I was Neg. hehe So hubby remains on litter box patrol, but there is something else called "cat scratch fever." That is my main concern.

I am sorry this happened hun but there was nothing you could do to prevent it. Just keep sanitizing and washing the cuts the same way you have been and everything will be fine.
