Crohns Disease And Pregnancy

I have a mild Case of Crohns Disease, My OB has informed me he will not take my pregnancy on because I have Crohns it puts me in the High Risk, so something else to be scared of, I was just wondering if anyone else here has Crohns or has had any exprience of Crohns and pregnancy with anyone they know.
Thanks
Michele

OH April you ARE a breath of fresh air THANKS so much this is my first preganacy and of course everything is making me worry !
Did you have the kids natural or C-Section ?
Im currently on Pentasa 500MG(Mesalamne) 8 pills a day thay told me I must continue my med if I dont want the baby to get Crohns and that Crohns can Cause Miscarriage so yes a Crohns pregnancy is a High Risk.

Crohns Disease is :
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Crohn's disease
Classification & external resources
The three most common sites of intestinal involvement in Crohn's disease are ileal, ileocolic and colonic.[1]
ICD-10 K50.
ICD-9 555
OMIM 266600
DiseasesDB 3178
MedlinePlus 000249
eMedicine med/477 ped/507 radio/197
MeSH D003424
Crohn's disease (also known as regional enteritis) is a chronic, episodic, inflammatory condition of the gastrointestinal tract characterized by transmural inflammation (affecting the entire wall of the involved bowel) and skip lesions (areas of inflammation with areas of normal lining between). Crohn's disease is a type of inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) and can affect any part of the gastrointestinal tract from mouth to anus; as a result, the symptoms of Crohn's disease vary among afflicted individuals. The main gastrointestinal symptoms are abdominal pain, diarrhea (which may be bloody) or constipation, vomiting and weight loss. Crohn's disease can also cause complications outside of the gastrointestinal tract such as skin rashes, arthritis, and inflammation of the eye.[1

Wow I am severely allergic to Pentasa! I tried it with my last little boy and I was in the hospital with hives and chestpain....I had vaginal births with both thankfully and hopefully will this time too! Yes Crohns does increase the risk of a miscarry...I have had 2 losses this year but they think it is from progesterone insufficiency so I am taking Prometrium for that....I had to see a prenatal diagnostics doc every month last time cause they needed to do ultrasounds often ( which I dont mind ) because my DH has kidney disease....You will prolly have a lot more ultrasounds which is nice....I also had gestational diabetes with my last two as well so I prolly will this time too...I know what you mean about worry! I do it all the time!!!! I drive myself nutty! Do you have yahoo IM? my id on there is april_nester25 if you do add me

The Pentasa has worked for me , The Dr actually wanted to do more routine Crohns tests and play around with different meds since I have been on the Pentasa for about 4 yrs and then found out im pregnant so all that has been put on hold.
And more unltrasounds is a good thing I agree, I cant wait to see the first pitures of this little one, I have been feeling so bad id like to actually feel some joy sometime soon, Our first Visit to the High Risk Clinic is Jan 2.
TY again April I will DEF be looking for you on Yahoo and staying in touch.

I see my norm OB and then I startin at about 14 weeks I will see a Hi-risk as well because my husband has Kidney Disease and Epilepsy and I have the Crohns and they will start doin the ultrasounds about every 6 weeks or so like last time probably up until about 30 weeks.....I had my last son at 35 weeks and because I was so early they transported me by ambulance to the nearest hospital with a multi-level NICU center and specialists. He came out fine...he was 7 lbs and 21 inches...No trouble breathin and came home with me 2 days later...altho about a month later he developed RSV and Pnuemonia...He is fine now....
