Spotting during a bowel movement (sorry if TMI)

Hi everyone,

As the thread title says, this happened to me yesterday. I spotted a small amount of red blood, and got a fright. I called the EPU, looking for reassurance, and once the MW discovered I had already had 3 scans, she wasn't willing to scan me again.

I explained when it happened, and she said it was due to 'pressure'.

Thankfully, there was no more 'red'. Instead it went pink, then a light brown. I had a few wee twinges and cramps (nothing sore, and not for a long time either). Today I have just had some light brown CM.

Sorry for all the TMI, just wanted to know what other people's experiences were of this type of thing?

Hi,

I hasn't happened to me but TBH everytime i'm worried that it might (cause of the constipation!!).

If your MW thinks their is no need to worry then try not to but I know saying it is one thing and being able to not worry is another!

x

Thanks girls. I am trying not to worry. It was defo coming from the front. Like I said, only a small amount - but I don't like seeing 'red'!

Well actually this is something that has been worrying me too.

I had a scare at the weekend with quite a bit of blood (definitely from the front) including some clots. This happened when I went to the toilet to have a (sorry) quite difficult bowel movement.

I'm worried that the "pressure" caused the bleed perhaps?

Just to clarify - and this probably is TMI - but I wasn't especially "straining" iykwim as I know a) this is not good anyway and b) since getting pregnant I'm paranoid about squeezing down below - but like many, I'm a bit more blocked up than usual during pregnancy.

I wonder if there's something in this?

Just wanted to say I am sure everything will be fine don't forget there is an awful lot of blood in your cervix at the moment and I bet any tiny tiny strain could possibly give you a little bleed, some people i bet are just very very sensitive around these areas....

Sorry to hear you experienced some bleeding I know its very stressful.

Bleeding in pregnancy is not a normal incident. However, it could be something as simple as a cervical erosion.

I had bleeding with my pregnancy but it is due to a blood clot in my uterus, and I started bleeding early on without any bowel movement or anything like that.

I'd say take it really easy sweetie and rest as much as you can in the next few days. If it is something non serious it will clear up pretty quickly. Brown blood is old blood so that is a good sign.

If the bleeding and cramping continues and you feel that something is not right then pursue the EPU for your own peace of mind. NHS doesnt like spending money/ resources on scans in early pregnancy so they are so damn reluctant to give you one. I hate that.

Take it easy and try not to stress big hugs
