Worried things will go wrong again . . .

Hi all. Im Rachel, 21 from Peterborough-uk

Ive just found out im pregnant again but in august 07 i had a late termination at 6 months as our baby's brain hadn't developed properly and the drs said he would have no quality of life Im so happy im pregnant again, but the problem our baby Sean had could be in the genes- the tests we had done afterwards were good and we was told by specialists that it doesn'y seem likely that this could happen again but no-one could be 100% ! I was also told that this time round i should have early scans as the hospital was pretty crap and should have spotted seans problems at 12 weeks, rather than 22 weeks. That also would have saved me having to go through having seans heart injected to make it stop, before i had to deliver him 3 days later. (the idea of having a dead baby inside me drove me crazy).

Anyway im worried as the earliest i can get booked in with the midwife is january the 9th for a booking in appointment (thats when they refer you to the scan department and u have to wait 4-6weeks from then!) ive tried ringing to book a scan early and have got nowhere as have not technically been refered yet-even tho i explained evryfin to them! I dont know if im 4weeks at the mo or 8wks as i had a light n early period last month! This means that my dating scan will be around february, in which case i'll be between 13wks n 17wks! if theres something wrong i want to know as early as possible so im really scared I dont no what else to do, as my drs surgery is saying the midwifes are fully booked until the new year!!

Hi there, Im so sorry to hear about your loss, that mus have been heartbreaking for you- and I think its disgusting that the dr's didnt pick up on any problems when you had your 12 week scan.

My advice to you is lie to them if need be. I had a scan at 7 weeks because I was bleeding- the drs told me that they were not going to scan me until 12 weeks unless bleeding continued, but I persisted with it and I finally got that early scan.
If 'issues' cant be found until around 12 weeks, I suggest to you (if you're wanting to know of your babies development), that you tell a few porkies.
The dr's can send you for a scan at any time. Hospitals have portable ultrasound machines. I had one done on me at 40 weeks and until then I didnt even know portables existed.

Once again, Im really sorry to hear of your loss, and Im also sorry that the dr's are not doing anything about your worries until 13 weeks +.
If you're just wishing to see the babies H/B, then I do strongly suggest that you fib a little.
If your wanting to know of any major problems then I think you'll find that the dr's will make you wait regardless, as they may wish for your baby to be more developped before scanning.
However, if it really is just for reassurance, and its the H/B and fetal pole that you want to see- lay it on thick and tell them a few stories.
Its appalling that you may have to resport to lies in order to get that U/S.

Best of luck and try your hardest not to worry.
Baby sean will always be with you, in heart, mind and in heaven.

Stay positive.

Hi hun,

Welcome to baby and bump!

I am so sorry for your loss

I understand where your concerns are coming from, but your care providers are aware of your previous pregnancy and outcome so I am sure they will understand if you went to talk to them and explained your anxieties.

If your GP is easy to talk to, have a good chat with him/her and see if there is anything s/he will be willing to do to help you get monitored as soon as possible. Explain how you are feeling and that you are losing sleep and not eating etc....pile it on a bit.

Wishing you a very healthy & happy pregnancy!

Good luck hun! x

I'm with Tam. I am also in the peterborough hospital catchment area and due to previous multiple miscarriages my gp was willing to send me for an early scan . Believe they still have an epu unit at hospital on the sixth floor. Get back to your gp now! Surely they would understand your concerns. Don't really like idea of telling a few fibs , might tempt fate, but thats me. Good luck
