a little bit confusing!!

Well.... as i posted last week about my m/c and then finding out that i am pregnant again, i have had a a very confusing conversation!!

My closest friends mother is a nurse and seems to think that its unlikely that i have caught on so soon. She seems to think the MC i had was a twin?! And I am still carrying the other?! The sickness i got before was due to the 'other twin' and now that its gone, I have none. She also says there is a slight curve to my belly which i wouldnt get yet...
During my MC, i lost only two small clots and alot of blood, but didnt pass no jelly ect.. The hospital did no scans, no swabs, just took a test and said very bluntly, 'youve had a MC' and discharged me.
Now my friends mother seems to think that because I was losing one twin my Hcg levels would of been on a low and the hospital test wouldnt of detected a pregnancy and the nurse should of done a scan.

So apparently.. she thinks that Im 10+5 not 6+1. Im very confused now and don't have an appointment until next tuesday and the doctor said its unlikely now that i'll be able to have an early scan and will most probably wait til i should be 12 weeks for a dating scan..

If all this was true, wouldnt I know i was still pregnant?!
Is it even possible??!

oh help me girls

(sorry if none of this makes sense, im trying to write it out but its all swishing round in my head and may not have come out in english!)

Oh and i forgot to say -

Miscarried on 20th april 08 at 5wks
Posotive test on 28th may

hmmm, obviously I'm no midwife but to me, you had 5+3 wks between your m/c and your next bfp, and thats plenty of time for your body to ovulate and for you to fall pregnant again, its also very common and there are PLENTY of women on this site alone that have m/c, only to fall pregnant the very next cycle, without having a normal AF inbetween. They do say you are more fertile straight after a m/.c, so perhaps this was you,. also, the bump she says you've got is more likely to be just bloat at 6wks,

Oh honey...

First of all, Congratulations! That is THE most important thing: you have had an MC (which is very traumatic - I know, I had one in March) and now you are pregnant again, that is just super

No matter what else happens (or what anyone says), that is the most important thing

Don't you hate the way that MCs are handled? I miscarried at 5.5 weeks and I received absolutely no tests, no scans and no nothing... I was advised to not TTC (infact to actively prevent it - with condoms) for at least a cycle and that is what we did. I suppose that apart from giving my body and mind rest, it also clears up any "confusion".

I have heard that it may well be possible to MC a baby whilst continuing to carry it's twin, but I am not sure how much truth there is in that and how much is "old wive's tale"...

At how many weeks/days did you MC the previous baby? At just over 4 weeks?

It IS possible to conceive straight after MCing - there are quite a few people on here who have done it. That would seem like the most logical explaination... it is most probably a new pregnancy.

Have you considered having a scan privately? In the UK an early scan is about £99 or less.

But, I would say whatever the reason (and I do think most likely a new pregnancy), the most important thing is that you are pregnant. Concentrate on the positives and don't let anyone else worry you...

Thankyou to you both. I know in myself that its a new pregnancy because i definitely lost that pregnant feeling when i had the MC. Its just very confusing to have somebody tell me this (especially when she has a medical profession!) I'll focus on the facts!!

It's indeed possible. I know two persons to whom it happened... But they never though it was a "full" m/c . The other baby was detected on ultrasounds and they knew they had a LO still there.

I say "when you hear hooves, look for a horse, not a zebra". It's more likely that you have conceived just after your m/c than having had twins.

Is there any way you could get a private scan, just to put your mind at rest?

hi

my grandmother was carrying twins and miscarried one but gave birth to my mum, so it is possible for it to happen.

as somebody else mentioned, paying to get an early scan done might be a good idea.

wishing you a happy and healthy pregnancy.

Well the girls seemed to have calmed me a little bit and im starting to push the idea out of my mind.

Im sure the doctor will be able to tell me next week, and im sure he'll know how far gone I am. But if he is unsure, i will pay for a scan just to put the idea to bed.

Like i said, i'll just focus on the facts and enjoy that this is a new pregnancy!

thankyou everybody xx

Honey this happened to me earlier this year.

MC in hopsital, 3 weeks later My levels had dropped 5 days after my MC so I must have ovulated straight away, so yes it is possible.

The only thing they can really do is take your bloods 48 hours apart to see if they are rising.

Good luck!

X
