Had scan, given an earlier expectancy date, how???

Hi,

I had my first scan yesterday, it was lovely to see the little bump that's been growing these last few weeks.

The midwife said I was 13 weeks 2days, not 12 weeks 3 and gave me a new expectancy date. But how can this be right? I know exactly when my last period was and that was 12 weeks 4 days ago (it's been a day since the scan), so how could I have been pregnant and then had a normal period and not have ejected the baby or whatever?

Does anyone understand this stuff who can explain please?

I was told that scans are never spot on, and are usually off by a week or so. Besides, who really gives birth right on their due date?

The doctors aren't always exact on their dates hun. My doctors tried to say I was supposed to be 8 weeks when I was 4 weeks when I could NOT of possibly conceived at the time. Turned out they were wrong and gave me a scare for no good reason. But try and remember due dates and conception dates are just an estimated guess - sometimes their close and other times their way off.

True, it certainly can't be right cause I just couldn't have been pregnant any earlier unless this is immaculate conception or an error. I've changed my ticker but I don't understand it at all.

Hi Twists. I had the same yesterday and a knowing friend explained to me that what ever date you are given, you have to go by the Scan dates. This seems to change! Therefore that must be due to the babys growth. So if its growing fast then it moves forward in its development. Its a new one on me too Twists! I thought I was 11 weeks and 6 days and I was told from the scan I was 12 weeks and 3 days. Which would be the immaculate conception if I went by those dates

The midwife told me that provided my dates, her dates and the scan dates were within a week of each other then not to worry

My dates are 3 days earlier than scan dates and 2 days later than midwife's dates!

Scans arent accurate at 12 weeks as bub is usually all curled up

they put me behind based on a scan they gave me an edd of December 1st based on a regular cycle they said November 22nd before the scan and my calculations say the 27th so im not really sure which to go by but i chose the latest due date and if i go a week early i wont be worried!!

Maybe the baby is developing more quickly than most and thereofore is maturing earlier? <3 sounds good to me xx

they changed mine by 3 days (which i know isnt a lot) but i know exactly when i ovulated..and when we had sex!!!

By my dates i should of been due early oct, by 1st scan went to 26th had scans at 11wks and 13 wks got told due date was 19th! So your could change again lol xx
