Breastfeeding

Anyone else completely frightened to death of breast feeding?! I know it is supposed to be one of the most natural and best things in the world for your baby but I really can't see myself doing it tbh!

I guess it might just be fear of the unknown yet and things may change as I get further along but the thought of it at the moment just makes me cringe! And the worst thing is, I don't even know why!

How many of you are planning to bf?

I plan on breastfeeding and have always assumed I would but now that Im actually pregnant the reality of it is a little scary! I realized my bb's are in such agony now & I dont have a baby sucking the life out of them yet! I'm hoping I get some info on a breastfeeding class and that will help me calm down about it!

I'm thinking the same, a friend of mine went to National Childbirth Trust antenatal classes and said they were fab and well worth paying for I'm reserving judgement until I see the mw!!! I lost my mum 9 years ago and all the questions I want to ask I can't and its sooo frustrating! Haven't told my dad yet but hoping he can remember as much as poss in terms of how her pg's were.

I've never been comfortable about breastfeeding... I don't know what it says about me and my mum's relationship , but I always avoid being around breastfeeding women! I always thought it would be a big no-no for me especially as I underwent a breast reduction operation and don't want my boobs to be all saggy afterwards!

However, I've given bfing a bit of thought and came to the conclusion I would try it. It's cheap, convenient and good for the baby! But I don't think I will be pushing it... If it's too hard or too painful, I think I will back off very quickly :'(

I think I'm in the same camp on that one, it might be a case of give it a go and see what happens, and as you say it might be easier and cheaper but if it hurts like mad, formula it is for baby!

I think the idea of expressing milk too freaks me out, like we're bloody cows or something! I just can't see myself doing it! I hope I don't sound ridiculously selfish, I don't mean to come across like that!

To be honest, the whole breastfeeding fashion seems pretty new. When our mums gave birth, they were'nt even encouraged to bf! It was all about women's liberation and yada yada yada.

As much as I think breastfeeding is great for your LO, women shouldn't feel guilty about not being able to do it. Whether it's because they don't have enough milk or because it's putting to much stress on them. Which baby wants a stressed mommy?

Btw, I'm a formula fed baby! I'm very rarely ill and I'm allergic to nada!

This is one of the biggest misconceptions about BFing. It isn't breastfeeding that causes your boobs to sag, but pregnancy itself So they are gonna go south whether you BF or not

No i werent frightened but i certainly didnt feel comfortable about doing it infront of family members, nor doing it in public. It didnt work out anyways.
I shall BF for first 4 days or so again, after then back to bottles.

I was bottle fed & my 2 younger siblings were breastfed. They both had colic & I didnt. My mom thinks that maybe it had something to do with breastfeeding. So - that freaks me out! I dont want to encourage my baby to have colic! LOL My mom doesnt remember a lot from when she was pregnant. She remembers the births & a few details - like that yogurt made her gag and she didnt like the smell of hamburgers frying in a fast food restaurant. So - your dad might remember even less! Hopefully not for your sake! I've complained to my mom and mil that I've been tired - and they dont understand - they both said "why?" They dont remember being tired at all!!!

I work from home so think it seems like I should breastfeed - cheaper, healthy for baby, etc. Im not against bottle feeding & might have to - I had a breast reduction years ago. They told me then that I would probably be able to breastfeed but no guarantee. Women have different reasons they cant breastfeed so I wont beat myself up about it if I cant but cant see myself not trying at least.
