So I have some questions/concerns and I'm hoping someone can put me at ease/tell me to go straight to my midwife!
I bought a (quite cheap to be honest) doppler off of ebay and I can't hear anything. I should be somewhere around 10-12weeks and because I've had a miscarriage before I'm really worried that the baby is gone. Some people seem to be able to hear the heartbeat at 8 or 9 weeks! Should I be worried yet? I don't get my hospital ultrasound for a couple of weeks yet...
Also, I've had morning actual sickness twice, and all day nausea for weeks now. However, at 21:15 I was sick...really horrifically sick! I will never ever again drink orange juice with bits in and rice...it's not nice to throw up! Is it unheard of to have such odd morning sickness?
Although I might not be replying, I am reading lots and really send my sympathy to all those who are getting bad news/potentially bad news and congratulations to all those who are getting good news!
Sometimes you can't even get the heartbeat when you're 16WK that's why it's not good to get a doppler if you're going to worry if you can't find the heartbeat
lol thanks Toria, I know it makes sense and I have heard of people, especially with their first pregnancy not being able to find heartbeats. Just wish I could have my ultrasound now.I wish I had a friend who was a dr/midwife then maybe they could steal an ultrasound machine and do one for me! or maybe not...
I was not able to find the heartbeat till I was about 11 weeks. Even now, I have trouble finding it. It took me a good 5 minutes to find it today. When I find it, it is really low, just about in hair line and to the right just a bit, and I point the want down toward where my bum is. Doppler gel also helps.
I was at the doc today and heard the HB, but when I came home and used my doppler, I couldn't find it. Maybe theirs are just more powerful than ours? My all-day sickness is odd too, they actually prescribed meds for it today. Just let the MW know what is up when you go in for a visit! I'm sure all is well!
Think using a doppler at home would cause me more angst than comfort. My midwife not keen on them, feels that products often claim to be able to be used at 8/10 weeks. She said that can be hard for an experienced user to pick up heartbeat that early, often hear the whooshing of maternal blood rather than train sound of baby heartbeat!

Your instructions should say more than this!
What doppler is it? Is it one of those with the headphones? If it is you've no chance yet and I assume it may be with you saying it was quite cheap?

Bethany it is possible to detect a HB around 9/ 10 weeks but there are certain factors that will make this less possible. For example if yo are not using any gel, being overweight, an empty bladder will all make hearing the HB less likely. A cheap doppler will also be less sensitive. Generally Midwives don't even try to detect a HB before 16 weeks due to causing unnecessary worry.
