Ladies.

This is my first post in the 1st Tri board!

This is an old thread but I wanted to ask your opinions on my scenario.

We have a flight booked for our holiday at Easter - London to LAX - 11 hours each way. I'll be a little over 10 weeks by then. Am I going to be ok with the radiation factor?

Thanks.

I would ask your doctor, since the flight is so long. When I went to Texas for Christmas (I was 9 weeks along or so) it was about 5 hours on planes (2 different planes) and she told me it was fine just to stay hydrated and exercise my feet to prevent blood clots.

Thanks Vickie. I've been on a few long flights and am really good (or annoying from other passengers point of view....) at moving about and I'm very good at drinking water. I'm mainly worried about the radiations effects on the bean....

YW I would certainly talk to your doctor about it, since the flight is so long--never hurts to ask these things!

I just asked my doctor about traveling specifically international air travel because I am moving to Japan from Kentucky! That's about a 15-16 hour flight total and takes two days to get there (14 hour time difference!) and he said as long as I am comfortable (no sickness/nausea, diarrhea etc.) that it was ok on me and baby. The only concerns are if you are in ur third tri after 32-35 wks for international and after 36 for domestic you would need a doctor's permission.
I hope you do well on ur flight! I came back from Japan while I was in my first trimester about 12 weeks along and did fine-and it's a longer flight back from there-i spent a total of almost 17 hours in the air!!
Like everyone else has said, just stay hydrated and try to sit close to a lavatory if you pee frequently and it will also give you a good reason to get up and move around alot as you should also do.
