| feel so stupid and confused appointments, scans! yeah so, I had my 1st appointment with doctor to tell them i was pregnant, I just went in and said "I just want to confirm my pregnancy" he asked me how many tests i took and I told him 3. He just laughed at me and was basically like "what do you want me to do? err sorry but this is my first pregnancy and I thought that this is what you are supposed to do (cheeky or what!)
so he books me with midwife. This midwife was standing in for the one I will normally have. I was 8 wks. She said "oh i dont really no what to say at this stage blah blah blah, you will get an appointment for your booking appointment and scan shortly as you have be referred.
Waiting Waiting Waiting....nothing. in the meantime im stressing
Decide to phone the doctors 14th of this month...doctor phones me back. I ask him about scan and booking in, he says "oh im not sure what ure asking, this is supposed to be automatic" I will check for you though ok
the I phone the doctors again because now im thinking i actually have to book the appointment. Receptionist says "yes you have to book!" im like for gods sake! then she says "oh wait a minute you dont have to book, you were referred on the 14th of this month and you will hear soon.
so, does that mean if I didnt check up, id still be sitting here stressing and getting nowhere???? Total joke and the doctor has a cheek to make meee! feel like a stupid little girl!!
Sorry for the rant, had to get it of my chest!! well at least i know im referred now, feel a bit better to know the balls rolling a bit.
anyone else has probs like this...cant believe they forgot about me lol | | | | Status: Offline

| Your visit to your gp, she just books you in for your midwife and scan to the hospital. You would have got letters and phamplets back re scans and nuchal scan info. You would normally see ur midwife at around 10 weeks, she will takea detailed history and blood tests for hiv, infections ect... then your 12/13 week scan for nuchal fold tests .
My barnet authority is brilliant, but i suppose it depends in what area you are | | | | Status: Offline

I suspect it might vary by practice? I called yesterday to set up my first GP appointment. I told the receptionist I was making the appointment because I'm pregnant, and I asked her what the appointment will entail. She asked, "Has it been confirmed?" When I told her not by a doctor, but I'd taken 2 home pregnancy tests, she said the doctor will ask me for a urine sample. So I *think* my GP will confirm the pregnancy with his own test. | | | | Status: Offline

| When i turned up at the doctors for my first appt i didnt know what to expect. I thought he was going to take a test and feel my belly or something... he just said 'OK sign the form at the front desk and a midwife will be in touch'. No test to confirm, he said 'why would i want to touch your belly, the test has confirmed it, i believe you!' haha
Sometimes i think the GPs have so many clients and demands the system fails, pregnancy isnt classed as important as your arm hanging off!! | | | | Status: Offline

| I went to the doctors yesterday and she didnt do any test, just has taken my word for it. I have booked a midwife appt and have been told she will take urine and blood tests from me then. Hope you don't have to wait much longer to hear from them | | | | Status: Offline

| I don't think the doctors and the receptionists speak to each other. When I rang to make my appointment the receptionist told me to bring a urine sample (like I was going to carry that around with me all day at work given I was going straight there) and the doctor just believed me when I said I'd had 2 positive home tests.
She referred me to the midwife/scan and I got a letter a couple of weeks later.
Got a load of leaflets and a form for free prescriptions from reception on the way out too. | | | | Status: Offline

| It does all depend on your docs, some do a test some dont. Really the hpt's are so reliable that docs really dont need to do a urine sample test but some do.
Your docs dont tell you anything about the preggo just refer you to the mw or at least most docs do , some doctors say "self refer" that depends on your area & their rules.
How long ago did you find out you were expecting? As you are 13wks by now you should of seen a midwife & either had a scan or be going within the week really, but of course this depends how long the docs have known you are preggo.
Hope you get sorted soon hun x | | | | Status: Offline
