| Augmentin? help? I had brown spotting on and off for few days, anyways, I had a swob took, and it shows I have thrush. So my doctor prescribed me augmentin, I read up on it, and it says that augmentin may cause thrush?! and also I read up that doctors wouldnt normally recommend augmentin as it may affect the developing baby? but I asked the doctor if its ok to take and she said yes. Im too scared to take them now, has anyone else took these while pregnant? | | | | Status: Offline

| Hi,
There is no evidence that augmentin is harmful to your baby, I think websites just tend to be a bit catious because there haven't been any studies of augmentin in pregnant woman, I think it's fairly frequently prescribed in pregnancy and should be ok to take.
I'd be a bit more worried about what your doc is actually treating though. Thrush is a fungal infection so an antibiotic like augmentin won't help and might even make it worse. All you need for thrush is a cream like canesten which is totally safe in pregnancy. Maybe you should speak to your doc and just clarify exactly what they're treating! Good luck. | | | | Status: Online

| I took augmentin for a kidney infection 4 weeks ago and it gave me awful thrush. It is not in anyway a treatment for thrush and taking it means you can become resistant and have fewer treatment options for a bacterial infection. Ask your doc for caneston cream and pessery, make sure you dont apply the pessery with the applicator. you poor thing x x | | | | Status: Offline

| It does seem it a bit weird. Sorry to add to your worry but I've had thrush loads of times and I've never heard of spotting being a symptom for that either, I've always just been really itchy with it. Hope you get it sorted out | | | | Status: Online

| Yeah thats another thing that's bothering me, Ive never had thrush before, so I didnt know the symptoms, so I got home and searched up the symptoms and it said itching and burning, Ive had none of that. Could there be some other sort of infection? If so then why would she say its thrush. AHH! :S | | | | Status: Offline

| You can get bacterial infections of vagina which would show up on a swab and would maybe be more likely to give you a funny coloured discharge. Maybe this is what the swab showed and the doc thought they would just say thrush because that would be something you had heard of and would need less explaining!! Seems a bit weird but it's all I can think of. It makes me cross when doctors don't explain things properly. I'm medically qualified although not a GP and I just think it gives us all a bad name. I hope you get an explanation and an apology. | | | | Status: Online

| Would you recommend I take them? In case it is some sort of other bacterial infection of the vagina. I know other people have took them whilst pregnant, Im just so paranoid, with it being the first 12 weeks etc, I havent even took a paracetamol. I dont want to risk taking anything that I dont have to. But then If there is an infection I should take them. | | | | Status: Offline
