Excuses for not drinking!

Hi all, just wondering what ingenious ideas you've come up with so far for not drinking? I'm nearly 6 wks and been to 2 do's in the last 2 weekends and finding it really hard to come up with excuses to the same friends without telling them the real reason. They know we've been trying for the last few months so I think it's gonna become obvious pretty quickly! Also we've both given up the smokes too so that's another blatant signpost to 'I'm pregnant!'

I've used 'we have to get up early to do something with family tomorrow',
I'm driving next week on a meal out because 'it's the end of the month and we're skint' but got a few dos coming up over the next few weeks and really struggling to pull the wool over people's eyes!

Have you got any fab ideas???!!

I'm already hungover and cant face hair of the dog - sometimes works.
I'm on anti-biotics for a bladder/kidney infection
I'm driving - always a good un!

I tried "I'm sick" but it didn't fool anybody I think. Fortunately, my friends were kind enough not to make annoying comments! (I spilled the beans to one of my best friends though because she thought I had something serious... Now I feel guilty! I've never been able to lie!)

How about "I'm driving"? If you are driving, that is...

I have a wedding this weekend, a hen night the weekend after and another wedding the weekend after that! Its two different sets of friends for the weddings! I will have to use the antibiotic one next weekend as we're staying in a hotel so can't use 'driving' 'up early' etc and the other wedding i am maid of honour and again 'driving' wont cut it! Everyone will know as i'm rubbish at lying but i'll try

Thanks ladies, I can't get away with the antibiotics thing with one of my friends cos she's a dentist and knows every tablet going inside out and back to front!!! You can drink with most antibiotics too so that one's out!!! When we went out the other wk dh kept going to the bar and getting me diet coke to pass off as vodka and diet coke which I normally drink, but they kept putting it in a half pint beer glass which doesn't really pass for being an alcoholic drink!!! I just kept moaning that they hadn't put it in a 'ladylike' glass!!! lol!

At a friends wedding I picked up champagne then swapped it with my DH when he'd drank half of his - I gave him my glass under the pretence of having to scratch my leg / do up my shoe etc. and then picked up the other one!

Not one person noticed - it was actually quite funny although DH did end up a bit squiffy

Otherwise, driving is a winner and the urine infection. The latter explains the frequent trips to the toilet as well!

I used the 'I have a tonne of studying to do and an essay due Monday/tomorrow etc'. It worked a treat!
