Hyperemesis Sufferers: Need Some Moral Support!

Hi Girlies!

I am 7weeks+1. MS kicked in at 5 weeks on the button and I have gone beyond Sea Bands and ginger biscuits as I was hospitallised on Tuesday for two nights with Hyperemesis. Hooked to a drip and given anti-emetics (Cyclazine, which made me spacey and then Metoclopramide which has a limited effect)

To say that I am miserable and hating this pregnancy is an understatement. I am not able to keep my Pregnacare vits down, consequently I am worried sick that Pudding will not be getting his Folic acid supplies at this crucial time when his brain is developing.

I am beside myself. Is any any other poor unfortunate girl going through the same?

C'mon, let's find the bright side in this and have a laugh...

Or I'm going to

The only good thing so far is that I was given an early scan at the EPU before being admitted and saw Puddings heartbeat-a little light flickering in the otherwise dark and sickly tunnel!

Sorry that I can't relate to this one hun but I'm really hoping things get better for you. I'm sure the little bean is doing just fine and is getting all his/her folic acids. Just keep up the hard work and sooner then later you'll be out of this vicious circle of feeling sick all the time - and onto feeling the baby move around in your tum. I have my fingers crossed you'll feel better soon!

I'm sorry you've been feeling so damn awful, but I suffered with this too! I actually found that Pregnacare made the sickness worse, there was a thread on here a few months back where a lot of us agreed it was making us sick. I switched to just folic acid in the end and took it right before I went to bed, and it stayed in long enough to be absorbed.
Nothing worked for me either, and I actually found that all the usual "cures" for sickness, like ginger, flat ginger beer etc, really burned my throat on the way back out again (tmi - sorry!).
I was offered accupuncture at 16 weeks as I'd lost a stone and really was struggling, and it really helped. I went on holiday for 3 weeks without being sick once. I've started feeling nauseous again, but I think I'm past the worst now.

If it's any consolation at all chick, they do say the worse the sickness is, the stronger the pregnancy is - and a few days ago it was linked to higher IQs - so there are some positives!!

On the bright side, I thought your picture was a load of different coloured vibrators, so I've had to wipe juice off my laptop from laughing so hard!!

Hope you feel better soon xx

Hun as I've mentioned to you my mate has the same thing and has been in and out of hospital 4 or 5 times now, she's just gone 13wks and its eased up dramactically in the last couple of weeks. Her bean is growing just fine and the dr's arn't worried at all. Is there nothing you can take while at home to help with it?

at the "on the way up again" statement. Before I eat something, I actually have to consider how it is going to feel on its way back up my throat again. Gross, I know, but practical. Chicken Fajitas huuuuuuuuuuuuuurt and I actually made my throat bleed after that; felt like I had swallowed glass for 24 hours afterwards. I had a bag of beef Monster Munch (don't ask) today and reassured myself that it would melt on the way down, thus making it easier to come painlessly back up.

Accupuncture sounds good! I hadn't thought of that one. I might consider trying it if it's safe.

Re. the more intelligent babies. I was lying in hospital and if one more nurse came in to tell me about the latest findings, I was going to punch her squarely between the eyes. (but I'll not punch you!)

Thanks wee Hen.

PS You're not the first to comment on my Jelly Babies being *ahem* love aids. It all depends how durty one's mind is...

Hello my newly preggo bump buddy! Good to see you up here at last.

I take comfort in your friends sickness easing off. I too suffered with my last pregnancy and I think (in the foggy mists of my memory) that I was around 16 or so weeks before starting to feel human again.

It's just that at the moment, I feel like dying and 16 weeks is a lifetime away

Drs have given me Ranitidine to help with excess stomach acid and Metoclopramide, but it only really takes the edge off it and make me drowsy on top of my already knackered and malnourished preggo state.

I reckon I have lost about 10lbs in 2 weeks and my diet as such is appalling.

Poor me. Woe is me.

hey there!
just wanted to pop over from 3rd tri to offer some support.. there is light at the end of the tunnel! i was like you.. very ill, and hospitalised numerous times for the rehydration drips, but im now 31 weeks, and getting better every day! i can eat almost normally, and am only sick once most days now..

also, try not to worry about the baby too much.. like the previous poster said, its actually a sign of a strong healthy pregnancy. at 31 weeks i only weigh 1kg more than i did when i got pregnant, but Ruby is measuring almost a week ahead, and is fighting fit in there so far, meeting all the milestones etc at the right times, despite how ill i was / have been.

all you can do is just put all your energy into resting, and eating what you can when you can, like you, none of the old wives tales of things that help really helped me.. the metacolprmide was useless, and the cyclizine works a bit, but makes me stoned out, a sacrafice i was willing to take, and in fact, it kind of turned out to be a handy way to pass the day..sleeping!
cream crackers worked a little in the mornings, but pretty much, i just ate what i could when i could, which meant living on salt & vinegar crisps for a few months! still, it didnt do ruby any harm!
try to stay positive, i know its early days for you and you probably feel like you will never make it to 31 weeks, but you will!!
pm me anytime if theres anything i can do!

Thank you darling! You don't know how much your encouragement means to me.

It looks like I'll be existing mainly on oranges and beef Monster Munch for the time being.

Your daughter looks so gorgeous! I can't wait till I'm at your stage (she mutters jealously)

Much love,

Sam xxx

Whilst ive not been diagnosed with this i can sort of feel what your going through , With ds i was fine really & just retched alot, although i didnt feel sick or anything & only suffered a week of migraines & just feeling ill, i still ate but my appetite was low & i lost 2 stone during my preg but because i was eating something & drinking i was fine & baby was a very healthy 7lb 4.
But this time oh boy i was so not prepared, From spot on 4wks preg i started with the sickness, felt dizzy, shaking, sweating then cold, lightheaded , wobbly etc etc.
I couldnt even force myself to eat , let alone eat then throw up. I felt constantly sick & the smell of food or thought of food made me retch so much i was crying with the pain in my stomach & on all 4s. I live alone with my 3yr old so i was forced to carry on cooking for him & doing as much motherly things as possible, This unfortunately wasnt good as it meant i got so run down from not eating & having no help that ive developed a chest ,ear & uti infection ( an infection of kidneys, urethra & bladder )!! I still struggle to eat , but im upto 1-2 slices of bread a day (not everyday mind) with sometimes abit of something on it like ham or beetroot strangely enough. Ive lost a stone in 4wks from it, but as i can drink for england & occasionally i am getting some foods the doctor is happy with that but has put me on antibiotics & cocodamols until im better. He did say if i can drink, to drink high sugar drinks & if i can eat try to eat/drink high protein things. He said milk was a fab protein drink & can also help settle a dodgy belly, easier said than done i know but its a start. So if you still cant eat or struggling then at least make sure you try & drink high sugar drinks for the energy & for the baby.
I'm sure in time you will be fine & everything will ease for you, If you have some help round the home or you can take time to sleep/rest grab it with both hands hun .
Good luck & i hope we both start to feel so much better soon xxxx

Aw, God bless you Hen!

You've really been suffering hard, haven't you? My heart goes out to you as I was on my own too with my last one and knows just how damn nightmarish it is.

I hope you get some respite from the MS soon, things are looking a little better for you already it seems.

Chin up, pet and I hope you get the little girl you desire.
