Pregnant & Overweight.....

Hi guys, i am new to this, last few days - found out i was pregnant last week......we conceived on our wedding night!!! omg! couldnt believe it....im just over 6 weeks.......due july 5th by my own calculations. first mid wife appointment in a couple of weeks - im so so so scared about everything! my mum and my my new mother in law had pre eclamsia which i dont know much about but its caused by high blood pressure i believe. anyway i just wanted to know if there are any other mums or mums to be out there who fell pregnant when they were overweight and if they and their babies were ok. ive been told ill be fine as long as i take it easy and take vitamins and folic acid and generally eat healthy and try and do gently exercise.........im quite short as well which doesnt help and my boobs are massive so go knows what ill be like when im about to drop!!!!!! would just be nice to know im not the only one thats pregnant and on the bigger side (but not from the baby bump!!!) thats another thing - will i deffinitely show???? at the moment people could be forgiven for thinking i was 6 months pregnant cos i have quite a tummy on me already!!!! xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

HI,

I was overweight when i started this pregnancy, according to those Doc charts i was morbidly obesse(sp?) which is a load of crap!

I was a lovely size 16 and weighed 13 stone before i had my youngest son a couple of years ago, and that size suited my frame perfect, any smaller than that and i dont look right coz im very broad.

After i had my son i went up to a size 18/20 and stayed there untill i started this pregnancy and as far as i know im still that size going by maternity clothes.

I had a belly to start with but i still have a big bump...

This was me before i started showing..

and this is me now..

Im sure you will get a bump, hope you have a great pregnancy.

Hope thats put your mind at rest a bit

x

My sister is quite large size 24/26 and she was showing by time she was about 7 months. Also, she has 3 beautiful children. She has a hard time getting pregnant, but her babies are very healthy.

Im overweight and currently pregnant with my first child. Im about a 20-22 before pregnancy. I lost 50lbs before coming pregnant. My doctor didnt even mention my weight with this pregnancy so far, last time I was there they said I had gained 5 lbs and that was right on track, so I think if you eat normal and try to get exercise you will be fine. Im 18 weeks now. My family says Im starting to look pregnant, but I think to the outside world I probaly wount intill my 7th month. Good luck

I'm a little overweight (not pg yet though), both my SILs were a little overweight too, and a friend's coworker was quite overweight too...all three had healthy babies - a total of 5 bundles of joy! The coworker actually, with her docs recommendation, didn't gain a lot of weight and delivered a healthy baby. And she weighed the same as she did going in! maybe a few pounds heavier, but not much.

Just talk with your doc and see what they recommend. If you were an okay weight before (despite what those darned charts say) then just try and gain the recommended weight, and if you really were too large, and your doc says it's ok, try not to gain too much.

I wouldn't worry about. A H&H 9 months!

yeh i am on the bigger side of things; my BMI says im obese but i definately dont look it; i am short too so if u put on 2 kilos it looks like 10 haha... im fit and healthy and before fell pregnant was excercising bout 2-3 times a week, i have been excercising each morning just to keep it up and aparently if u excercise gently during your pregnancy the placenta ends up bigger and bubby gets much more oxygen and nutrients; also helps you have a much safer/natural birth; but it would be different if you couldnt get off the couch sorta thing (thas not a mean statement cos it does happen) but when you are that over weight its actually quite hard to fall pregnant anyways; you could just get away with yoga or something...itll put your mind more into ur body ive started it up again and now i have this confident more relaxed approach to my pregnancy; dont stress jsut keep urself and bubs healthy and happy and remmebr if u have theodd snack here and there its only normal..everyone does it haha
