First doctors appointment?

What happened when you went to the doctors to say you were preg?

I went on Friday but all he said was "are you still taking contraception?" , was really patronising and made out as if I was purposely starving myself by being sick.

Didn't get any info packs? Didn't work out my due date?

He also said he would pass my details onto the midwife but they wouldn't see me until 13 weeks? So I wont have a 12 week scan? How long did it take for the midwife to contact you after going to the doctors?

My doctor made me fill a maternity form in, made me a scan appointment then sent me round to the midwifes office where her receptionist booked an appointment for me to see her. She also worked out my EDD.

All depends on which doctor you've got. Some are nice and helpful, others aren't! x

First of all Congratulations on the baby!

I went to my doctors, they made me take in a urine sample they sent it off, i rang up for my results few days... they told me it was positive (which i knew) and told me i had to register with my midwife, (i was confused how to?) but they just took my number down and said the midwife will be in touch. The midwife didnt ring but wrote me a letter about a week later for my 1st antenatal appointment, which was 2 weeks after the date she sent it (i will be 10wk 5days), im still waiting for a letter for my scan. Im not sure if thats what happened with everyone else? My service in my area seems so slow!

P.s - because i havnt had no doctors appointment or nothing i have this website to thnk for all the info and stff iv gotten, and theres loads of "due date calculators" online that can give you a idea untill u get reasurance off your midwife!

sounds like your doctor was an idiot! That would make me mad. I would probably go to someone else and get more information.

I went to my Docs on Friday. She was really nice but said there was nothing that Doctors do now unless complications, go to the clinic reception (upstairs in the Docs) and register and good luck!

I went upstairs and the receptionist at the midwife clinic bit gave me my baby pack and Ready Steady Baby Book and booked me in for my first midwife appointment on 26 May.

Can you go to the clinic where the midwife is to make an appointment and find out the processes? The receptionist was quite helpful to me.

The only way to get to a midwife is to go to a doctor first

My doc came in and told me the test came back and it was confirmed that I was pregnant. Then he went over all my symptoms and concerns. After that he gave me a free trial of prenatal vitamins, two informative magazines on staying healthy and how the baby grows, and that was that. You just have to remember all docs are different.

I went to my 1st doc app't at 6 weeks. She took a urine sample to check for infection (didn't do a preg test - she just took my word for it) and weighed me. Then she talked a bit about the options (mw vs doc) and booked me for another app't in 4 weeks. Not much, but I don't think theres much she can do so early. I will be getting a scan at 13 weeks though. Here we don't have to see a doc before a mw - I called a midwife separately and am going to my first mw appointment tomorrow!!
