Appointments, scans – please help!

hi everyone

just found this forum and i'm so happy! really nice to know you're not on your own.

i'm six and a half weeks pregnant, first time, and pretty much scared to death. been suffering pretty bad with morning sickness, exhaustion and indigestion so haven't been having much fun so far. been reading through the threads here though and it's been a lot of help, so thanks you all for just being on here and sharing.

also i have questions that no book seems to be able to help me with so i thought you guys might...
basically i'm just wondering what order thing go in now, with regards to appointments and scans and all that. i was at the gp 2 weeks ago to confirm the pregnancy and was told i'd hear from the local maternity hospital (i live in london by the way). haven't heard anything yet, what's even going to happen next? and when will i have my first scan? i'm reluctant to tell people until i know everything's ok.

i just feel really confused at the moment, i'm waiting for something but i don't even know what i'm waiting for and more than anything i want to know my baby is ok.

any help greatly appreciated!

Hi and congratulations

Depends roughly on your local PCT but as a rule

first midwife appointment - between 8 - 10 weeks
first dating scan - between 10-12 weeks

Though dates do tend to vary from area to area

If you live in London you can find your own midwife online on the nhs website - type in pregnancy and it comes up pretty quick.

I'm in the same boat as you, went to docs last week (appointment similar to yours, blood pressure check, that was it) and still waiting for midwife appointment to come through.

At the first appointment, according to my "pregnancy bible" they will ask about family history, take bloods to check for random health stuff, check your height and weight etc and give you lots of info on what happens next. Looks like you blood pressure gets checked a lot during pregnancy so they'll do that again too.

Hope that helps, and welcome to the gang, another Christmas baby - yey
