I don't think I will have the tests either. If I were over 35, then I would. But I still have a few years yet.

I do love listening to the heartbeat, and do so every night. I skipped the night before last, and last night when I found it I noticed that it is beginning to drop. It had been over 170 and now it is around 165. It just amazes me how quickly thing can change with this little creature. I am so excited about hitting 12 weeks. AND I noticed that today my ticker has 199 days to go! Woo Hoo!!!

I had the test with both of my sons and plan to have mine next month for this baby. I also have known one person who got a false positive but many that didn't. I was told that if the test comes back high risk or positive they will do a amniocentisis to check again. Also I was reading that they measure the width of the neck to see if it is thicker as that is a sign of downs. I am choosing to do the test because honestly.. I would need time to adjust to life with a special needs baby and the thought of not knowing would bother me more than knowing and preparing and then finding out at birth they were wrong. But HEY... to each its own. I am sure you will be fine as you are young and healthy.

Congrats on hearing it! I think on Monday we should be able to hear it like that as well, I'll be about the same as you were. Yesterday, I couldn't hear it but the Dr. could.

We have decided not to have the test done. There is a small chance of miscarriage associated with it, and we wouldn't abort the baby and it would only give me that much more to stress about.

Although, I do have a friend that had the test done and everything came back fine and then a week later when they had the US the baby looked like it had a brain tumor, but they said because of the test, it probably wasn't. So that was reassuring for them.

Aww Dee, that was great. I'm happy the baby is doing good.

As for the tests, I decided not to take them, I'm 24 and didn't think the risk was there and I didn't want to go through the stress of worrying about it because you know you would. Plus my doctor mentioned that if anything abnormal came back with my 18week U/S that I could have the tests done then, since you can get them up to 20 weeks.

Thank you Jenny... Yeah.. we're not going to get it done.. I honestly don't think I need to worry.. I'm young.. this is my first pregnancy... and I don't know.. I'm thinking high positive thoughts and praying to God. Unfortunately we have no control either way if there is something wrong or not.

Thanks!

aww, that's adorable.
i heard mine at my last dr's appt. i am going for one tomorrow morning.

p.s. i am 25 and my husband and I decided to have the genetic prenatal testing. no particular reason or medical history why we did it, but I just wanted to make sure that everything is alright. i am getting those results tomorrow. however, the nuchal translucency determines 80% of the test, and that value was normal already, so i am at ease.

I LOVE hearing the heartbeat. I just got my fetal doppler today and I could sit and listen FOREVER! (even if it is REALLY hard to find!) I opted out of the testing too...not like I'm going to give up or abort the baby because something is 'wrong' with it.

Video taping was such an awesome idea. I have never thought about that. It would be a great way to share the appointments with my in-laws and with my parents.

Congrats on hearing the heartbeat! I heard mine last appointment where the mean doctor didn't give me a picture. We even saw the baby move. I loved hearing the heartbeat. It is such an indescribable feeling. I am so happy that everything is going good for you.
