What to do for a yeast infection?

Hi all. Well I think I have a yeast infection.. I have recently had some vaginal itching lately. I have never even had a yeast infection before but the reason that I thought of it is because I have been taking amoxicillin for 8 days now for an infection I had.. So I have 2 more days of it and I wanted to finish it but now Im not sure if I should or not because I really dont want a yeast infection... I have been taking a probiotic which contains lactobacillus which is supposed to help prevent yeast infections so I really didnt think I would get one.. What is good to use in the first trimester for a yeast infection, Monistat? I called to ask my OB but since I have not had my first appt yet (its not until Nov 12th), they cant give me any medical information... Anyway, If anyone can give me some advice on this, I would really appreciate it. Thanks!

I would insist on seeing your dr. Yeast infections are very common in pregnancy. Usually they will prescribe you an antibiotic. You can also make sure to eat yogurt with live cultures in it, every day.

Good luck!

I wouldn't use anything unless directed by your doctor. I would tell them your concerns and see if theres anyway the visit could get pushed up. Sometimes DR will postpone on certain drugs till your out of the first trimester. I hope everything turns out fine! I've also heard that you should eat yogurt with live cultures in it as Holldoll said

Thanks everyone. I might try to get the appt pushed up sooner if I can.. Maybe if i tell them i have a yeast infection and need to get in to see the doctor about it it would help.. who knows.. if not then Ill just call my regular dr and ask her.. Anyway, I know lactobacillus acidophilus is suppose to be good. I am taking a probiotic which has that and other live cultures in it.. I am just hoping this wont be a severe yeast infection and that it will go away soon...

By the way VanWest, I am near Jacksonville FL... I know what you mean about pregnancy brain. I am getting it bad already .. forgetting things and making mistakes... guess it will only get worse lol

You can also treat the yeast infection more 'directly' if you put a little yogurt (with live cultures of course) on your fingers and swish it around inside your vagina. It helps alleviate the symptoms faster if you put the where it's needed most.

Thanks everyone. It was pretty bad last night. I had trouble sleeping... I have heard of the yogurt idea.. Might just try that on the outside maybe... I have been using balmex diaper rash cream quite a bit... I am hoping that is safe to use...

Thanks shamrockgirl. I wish I could get some help from the OB ill be going to but my appt is not until nov 12th so they wont help me yet. I did call my regular dr though and Ill see what they recommend. I know monistat is suppose to be pretty safe, but is it best to use the cream with the applicator or the suppositories? I know with the applicator and the cream they say not to put it too far up.. And can you use either the 3 day or 7 day? I would appreciate any info on this. Thanks!!
