Progesterone/HCG Question

Hello.
My 4 week 2 day (16dpo) progesterone came back at 155 and my HCG at 454. The HCG seems normal to me but the progesterone very high. 2 days prior my progesterone was 146 and HCG 177. Any ideas what could make the progesterone so high? This was an IUI cycle with gonal-f. Thanks in advance!

Jacqui your Progesterone levels are high considering you are in the first trimester - Have you had any leautal phase support such as pessaries or injections, as is common with fertility treatments?

Rachael -

Thanks for your reply. No, I wasn't on anything other than the gonal-f and of course the trigger shot. With my prior pregnancy, which ended in a miscarriage, on the same meds my progesterone was only 30.

Well the good thing is that higher than "Normal" progesterone levels aren't generally something to worry about - Its when your levels drop or don't rise from pre-pregnancy that its worrysome, as Progesterone is essential to maintaining a healthy pregnancy. Many fertility clinics actually prescribe Progesterone either as pessaries or injections for the first trimester to support the pregnancy, as some Consultants believe that it can prevent miscarriages......As your Progesterone level is nice and high, I would take that as a good sign unless your Consultant tells you otherwise.
