| Mum (Mom) BnB Addict  Join Date: Jan 2009 Location: Northern Ireland Posts: 3,401 | Hiya, I asked my GP about this and she said that there is evidence both for and against eating peanuts in pregnancy and because of that it is better to do without if you can. I've given peanut butter and nutella up because of it. Dont know how much this helps!!  |

| Mum (Mom) BnB Addict  Join Date: Feb 2009 Location: Manchester, UK Posts: 4,698 | Aww hun i soooooo sympathise! I think peanut butter might be one of my favourite things IN THE WORLD! And before i was pregnant i was dreading having to give it up! When we first found out i got OH to do some research on the net and he found an article which suggested that the research is inconclusive as to whether abstaining from peanut products during pregnancy actually does prevent babies being born with a peanut allergy. This got me thinking wahey  but i held off from the peanut butter on toast long enough to get to my 1st midwife visit where she crushed my hopes entirely! She said that because the evidence is inconclusive but i have a history of allergies in my family (that's hayfever, asthma, eczema etc in the family, no known food allergies) she would recommend avoiding peanuts completely during pregnancy, but that all other nuts were okay, like pine nuts, cashews etc... I was soooo disappointed! |
