1st Dr's Visit

Hi Everyone...

My first doctor's visit is one week from today. I will be around 7 weeks by then. Any advice on what to ask the doctor at this first visit? Also, what exactly should I expect this first visit....AKA what are they gonna do to me?? Haha. Thanks!

My first visit was about the family history stuff and I also got a full examination and pap smear.

I suggest making a list of questions Like I did and bringing them with you... that'll help you out a lot and the Doctor too.

GOOD LUCK!

Yeah I second the other responses. Your doc will ask you for your medical background as well as your partner's background. They'll ask you when your last period was. They may schedule you for an ultra sound and blood/urine tests for a few weeks from now.

As far as what to ask, hmm...you might want to find out about the different foods they suggest you eat/don't eat. If you are having any uncomfortable symptoms you can discuss them with your doc as well.

The first visit is also the time for you to ask your doctor questions about how he practices. If you know you want a natural birth, ask him how many epidurals he gives. Does he do episiotomies? That kind of thing. You might want to do some research into episiotomies before you go, they are pretty controversial and it might be something you care about.

Like the others said, it will be family history, pap smear, and mine also did an internal US.

Bring a mini pad with you; some people tend to spot after a pap smear. It's good to have a full tummy so when they take your blood you don't get to light headed.
