Doctors a waste of time!

Rant alert here so be warned all!! Went to the doctors at 3pm today not really knowing what to expect. I thought at least they would confirm my with there own test. But what i got was well done come back in 3 weeks when you are 8 weeks along and see the nurse. . . . . That was it! In out in 2 mins what was the point?? Anyone else had a GP do this??

yep, this is normal hun. They don't confirm with a blood test or anything, just send you away to wait for your letter for your 12 week scan!!

yep, had exactly the same thing happen!

2 weeks later i booked appointment to see midwife, went in, saw her, she didn't even tell me her name! then made my booking in appointment a week later (which i had on thursday, after a phone call the day before to change the time to earlier )

a lot of GP's tend to go by the tests that we've taken as they're very accurate now

i was shocked though to think that they'd just take my word for it

*hugs*

sounds pretty familiar, my first appointment wan't long - but he did check my blood pressure and send me for blood tests to check sugar and other general things. But it's pointless, because the hospital will do that for you anyway and you don't need it twice - the hospital results will go into your maternity file and so everyone who deals with you during pregnancy will have access to them.

So, actually, there isn't much for the doc to do at the first appointment - you can ask them to confirm the BFP if you want to, but they don't do it as a norm as the hpts are pretty accurate.

They verified with a urine test that I was pregnant. I guess it is different over there.

Yeah thats completely normal - and it is done for a reason.. They varify pregnancy normally when they take blood at your booking appointment.

There really isn't anything else they can do! Even between 4 and 6 weeks, that is so so early for a pregnancy and sadly quite often ends in a chemical. My area don't book you into until 10 weeks as standard.

They confirm our pregnancies here with a urine test. My doctor sent me for a blood test also.

TBH i didn't know what to expect but when we had the nice lady doctor when we were only TTC she sent me for blood tests to check i had all my jabs up to date and checked DH blood pressure. Now we get the old git doctor and he doesn't even confrim with peeing in a cup! Just seemed a bit odd to me. Glad its not just my GP though

Also seems a bit strange that you are nearly a 1/3 of the way through the pregnancy before they even scan to make sure the fetus is viable and healty. 12 weeks is a long time to be thinking everyting is fine . . . Maybe thats just me.
