Sharp Pains - worried

Hi all,

This is my first time on here!! I am finally pregnant after 6 failed IVF's and years and years of trying - and it happened natuarally!! I found out last Thursday that I was 5 weeks pregnant (was a total shock as had all my normal period pains and still seems to good to be true), so now I am 6 weeks. I have never been pregnant before so am new to all this although I have spent the last week on the internet googling all the pains I am having. Well - on top of the periody type pains I have been getting some reall sharp pains, in the centre lower down, most of the time they are sharp but bearable but last night some were seriously sharp and quite uncomfortable. I have had no bleeding but am really really worried. Please can you let me know if you had similar pains and what they turned out to be. I have got a scan on Saturday which will be 6w 2 days and I am so worried that I have miscarried.

Thanks so much

Louise

i'm a bit confused about what your pains are. Do you mean you are getting pains going from behind your bellybutton and straight down towards the floor? X

Hey Chick,

Well congrats on the BFP.
I posted about the same kinda pains yesterday and the girls all reasured me it's normal apparently it's your uterus stretching getting ready for the baby. But if you are at all worried speak to your dr or midwife!

Hi, welcome to baby and bump and congratulations on your pregnancy! What an amazing story you have already!
Aches and pains are prefectly normal in the first trimester. It's your womb preparing your muscles ready to support a great amount of weight. I've had period style pains since a few days before my BFP and I get them every couple of days now.
Just remember everything has to stretch to allow your baby to grow and although its only teeny tiny right now, its still bigger than anything your womb has had to hold so far!!
If you are worried, see if you can speak to a mw or consultant when you have your scan.
Good luck for your scan

Hey, congratulations What a fab story! As for the pains, I am newly pregnant and have loads of aches and pains all around my abdomen. I have the occasional "period" pain, and then now and again a sort of tugging feeling, and my tummy feels gently bruised too. I have to admit that I just assumed this was all OK. I m/c before so I am trying VERY hard to be really cool about this pg and to r-e-l-a-x and enjoy.

Wishing you a very happy and healthy pregnancy xx

I've had period pain for weeks, stretching pains, pulling pains, i've had these really sharp stabbing pains that last about 10 seconds and practically make me keel over in agony! I think i've had every type of pain there can be. I also have googled and seen the word "miscarriage" every time.
2 scans and a heartbeat on my doppler last night and over 13 weeks in says everything is ok though! Its mega scary but you've just got to have faith i think :-)

Im six weeks just the same as you, i keep having the same pains as you describe my doctor said it was to be expected as it was stretching the uterus.

Really happy for you what an amazing story! I think sometimes out bodies must know whats best for us!

I too have had these sharp pains, in fact they were really bad 4days after ovulation, then I have all sorts of twinges since. At 6+5 I suddenly had really bad shooting pains, and I mean really bad right up the centre of me - I then had a bleed. Had an emergency scan the next day and everything was fine, even saw the heartbeat it was 'just one of those things'! I have spent the last week worrying but am just starting to relax again, these babies are quite the little fighters I think!!

I have had loads of twinges today as well, but am sure everything is okay! Apparently your uterus has already doubled in size, so no wonder we get some twinges!!!
Good luck

Hiya
I had really bad abdominal pains on both sides I think, the sort that made me double over with pain.
Phoned NHS direct, which sent me to the hospital - they suspected ectopic, but also said it could just be growing pains. After a rough couple of days, they saw there was nothing at all wrong and ust growing pains of the womb (that's how the docs there described it).

So, I think it's normal, it's only if you are in a lot of pain continuously and if your tummy is very sore to touch on one side that there is anything to worry about.

That said, I think if you have abdominal pains and you are in a lot of pain and worried, there is no harm in calling an early pregnancy unit to ask what they think. But don't get overworked if it's not too bad - I think we're all going to go through lots of aches pains etc... and need to keep things in perspective too as it's a long haul!!

Good luck!
xx

Thanks Ladies, its nice to know i'm "normal". Well a bit of an update, the pains were really getting to me so I had a scan yesterday afternoon and everything is fine, I am 6 weeks and I heard the heartbeat (4mm) - I think this is normal? it was so so so cool!!! The pain is from a small cyst on my right ovary which I have been told is fine and should go.

Louise xx
