hi ya,

ive been on a hell of a journey via smp ma tax credits redundancy etc etc, if you have worked for your employer for 26 weeks into the 15th week before your baby is due then you qualify for smp...if you have had time off during your pregnancy for "pregnancy related problems" then they are not able to use this sickness period against you and it cannot be disclosed to any future employers via references etc, there is a tool on the directgov wesite called the tiger tool aswell as an inland revenue smp calculator, you put in your dates you started work, sickness, pay dates etc and it calcultaes it all for you *this site is where your employer will go to find out all the details*

http://smpcalculator.inlandrevenue.gov.uk/SMP1.aspx

let us know how you get on

let us know; if not you can claim maternity allowance, which is what I am doing as I found out I was pregnant after starting in this company.

you only loose six weeks at 90% of your usual earnings; you are paid for 9 months the same basic rate as statutory and the same additional 3 months un paid...so not too much difference if worst case you are not entitled...

Hey hun

sounds like your work are trying to pull a fast one and see if they can get away with it b******s!! They can claim it back anyway but it appears they probably don't want the hassle of it.

Do you have a HR contact you can speak to? to be honest the way they have handled this it probably means they don't.

Make sure you speak with them and get the answers you want with all the advice on this thread make sure you have it with you to ask them and if you are still not satisfied then take it further.

let us know how you get on xx
