Sweetheart - you need to get a lawyer. No one else knows the law like they do & they'll know the right questions to ask to make sure they are giving you the most relevant info for your specific situation.

I feel for you - going through it with my SIL was absolutely heartbreaking. The day after the judgement I cried furiously the whole day (I couldn't the day of 'cause I had to be there for her).

Fortunately Canada has a good legal aid system so if cost is an issue it is definitely worth looking into. Good luck!

I also went through the legal aid system while we were going through custody of my daughter. You now have to prove that the OH was abusive or they will deny you.

And the lawyer stank. We got into court that day and she did not make the pertinent comments that she should have made or asked the appropriate questions. Actually, when she first saw Dan in the hallway she told me how handsome he was. Good lord!

If I could do it all over again, I would go at it alone.
