Its not so much that the baby cant handle being outside, it's the exposure to germs - especially in public places.

Babies (esp. new ones) get sick really easy and if they get sick, that means a trip to the hospital and probably being admitted.

So...I tell my parents no taking the baby out to public places except the Dr office (if possible) until 1-2 months old is possible and if they HAVE to, the baby needs to be covered up and not touched/sneezed on/in contact with germy icky stuff/people. Sitting out in a garden shouldnt be a problem?

I took my daughter out the next day! Round to a friends house. I wrapped her up really well though. I know it use to be 10 days before you took them out but as long as they're wrapped up I think you're fine. I remember my MIL saying to me "now don't go taking her out before she's 10 days" and I was like "ok" but still did it as I felt it was fine and she is my daughter at the end of the day!

This is surely completly impractical in today's world. Besides, how would their immune system develop if they never came in contact with germs. If you breastfeed as well, the baby gets your immunity. I'm quite happy for people with a cold etc to play with Kaya as it challenges her immune system.

I agree with Marley. There's a thousand people who want to see my baby. Most of them will come to me but once I feel up to it I want to go out and show her off to everyone else. Make sure they're wrapped up warm and they'll be fine. I hate all this stepping on eggshells that people come up with. Don't take you're baby outside incase they get germs, that's just silly

i think its fine to take baby out when you feel up to it. I know i'll not feel much like going out when i've been through so much pain!

Yep, I heard on the news yesterday something about children who get more coughs and colds are less liekly to develop leukemia, and also have stronger immune systems
