housing situations

since finding out i'm pregnant, all i've done is worry and panic about my housing situation.

i've recently moved to england, from wales to be with OH and to start my new job.

3 months ago my OH brought a house with his friend. and not a very good friend at that. the house needs so much repair and work done, and only OH is bothered to spend his money and do it.

i'm staying with them untill i'm sorted, well this was untill i found out i'm pregnant. as soon as OHs friend finds out, i will no longer be able to stay here. council wont help me. only help that they gave was to go private. but soon i wont be able to work and wont afford rent on my own. also many private places dont accept housing benefit.

sorry for the essay, but any help would be very very gratefull.

many thanks x x

The only advice I can give is to speak to housing aid. If you are pregnant or have a small child you are entitled to help if you are on a low income (or maternity pay). Sorry I cant be more help

You need to ask about and find out the propertys/landlords that do take tenants on benefits. (ask in estate agents, look in paper call and ask)
Find the place, go to the council, get a pre-tennancy determination, it tells you if they will pay the rent, you will only be entitled to it if you are on income support, or a low income, go to CAB and find out how to go about it all.
TBH you are better off not having this place to stay as you are homeless, and this may mean benefits can be sorted out sooner.
Once you have found out what to apply for and got the ball rolling it will all be much easier.
The only thing you may have to do up front is find the deposit, you do get it back at the end of the tenancy or it is cut off the last months rent.

Good luck, pm me if you wanted anything specific, I can only say from experience, but when i left my husband with 3 children with me, i found a place and a landlord who would take me and went from there.
You could try getting a personal character reference written up and offer it to landlords with propertys you are interested in, anything like that will help, and the fact that the rent is guararnteed should help too!

if your unintentionally made homeless ie... kicked out by your OH's friend and get it in writing that you cant stay there any longer then the council will house you even if its a hostel or temporary accomidation till they can find you a council place, otherwise depending on how it works in your area then you can apply for council housing and bid on properties and the council housing association should have lists of landlords who will take tenants on Housing Benefit

Not much help here but all i know is the council arent aloud to make a woman with a child or a pregnant woman homeless and they cant force you to go private
im in temporary accomodation as we had to make ourselves homeless, if you want any info on it let me know
good luck!

hey dunno if it helps but I know my hometown (bristol) the council does bond schemes for deposits and has specific letting agents that accept HB.... i dunno about other places though i'm afraid. also like someone says hospital can't release you until you have somewhere to go!

Im confused, why would your OHs friend kickyou out? If your OH is equal owner, wouldnt he have a say?!
If not get them to both write you a note saying you are being made homeless on such and such a date then take it to the council.
