Opinions on buying carseats online?

A carseat is one of the few things we are absolutely getting new. However, I've been having trouble finding any that are any kind of reasonable price in any shops (including the shops like KMart etc). Well, that isn't entirely true, the ones I have seen for reasonable cost are either only a 3 point restraint (for baby capsules, would rather have a convertible with a 5 point for various reasons), or need some odd kind of strapping in system that I'm not sure our car supports. Arghhhhh.
I was hoping to get one that works with the seat belt and doesn't need to mess with ISOfix (not in our car) or tether straps/bolts (one car may have, other one probably does not, and even though we don't drive that one that much...)
So I've found some carseats available new online, that have the 5 point harness, work with seatbelts only AND are a decent price (even after shipping). I'm just worried that they won't work since we won't be able to try them out in the car before we buy...

Is there anyway you can find them in a shop and try them out and then shop for them online for cheaper?
With our first one, we didn't have a car, but still got a car seat. I just bought one online after reading loads of reviews and stuff. The second one, we have a car, and I just researched it and made sure it fit in our car and then bought it online when it was on sale.

Unfortunately the ones the shops carry aren't the ones I've seen online. Even if the online ones have a physical shop it's in another part of the country.

Just make sure that the seat you buy fits your car and that you buy from a reputable online company and it should be fine.

I bought both of Otter's seats online. His infant one (Chicco KeyFit 30) and his convertable when he outgrew that (Radian XTSL). I have been happy with them both. I was not able to check either of them out in person before buying them. But I did quite a bit of research before buying them. And I didn't obsess over price on this one as the safety aspect came first for me. The Radian was pricey, but worth it.
