Question for anyone who has had 5th baby

Question for anyone who has had 5th baby

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Hi all just wondered if any of you had complications with your 5th child. I had my 4th at home in about an hour with no complications or anything (no complications with any of my other births either). But when I saw midwife last week she told me that I have to have a consultant led birth and they would not support me having a home birth this time .She said that 5th babies tend to cause bleeding issues so just wondered if any of you had heard that or suffered with that. Hope u are all well and yr pregnancys progressing well.

Whatever..They are classifying you as high risk because of this..My 4th and 5th were at home, and 4 was so much harder than 5! Nothing happened, it was great, not a big deal. If you are taking care of yourself, and eating the high protein, and all the good stuff, things should be fine..What are the odds of you switching midwives?

Lol I know its crazy for number 4 had home birth because I tend to have my babies quick !! So it made sense and I feel the same way for number 5 guess I will see how it goes. At the end of the day if number 5 is as quick as number 4 the choice will be made for me lol.

I was also wondering this about complications with number 5. I'd also heard something about bleeding. This is number 5 for me. My last baby was just over 4 years ago. All my labours have been hard and fairly long ranging from 19 hours to the shortest being 9 hours (the last one). I'm hoping this labour won't be short as I need to get to hospital in time to have an IV as I have group b strep. No one has mentioned to me about any excess bleeding with it being number 5 but I did read it somewhere. I have an appointment with mw when I'm 34 weeks pregnant. I'll ask her then. x

There is an increased risk of severe bleeding after several babies, so they do usually plan on giving you something to counter that at the very end stages of labour or right after the baby is born. Having said that I had no5 with no complications and no shots or drips of any kind. I am choosing to have no6 in a hospital though, just in case. I was under the impression that anti-hemorragic drugs were one of the few things midwives carried to homebirths - that and oxygen. You could ask about that.

It is the bleeding issue, thats why i cant have any at home

After 4 you are classed more at risk

I am having our 6th baby and we have booked a home birth. I was told when having our 5th child that the was a higher risk for bleeding after delivery but that they would give me an injection as soon as baby is born to deliver the placenta quickly which would hopefully prevent any heavy bleeding. I have been referred to a consultant this time and he was surprised actually that my midwife felt I was at risk at home as I too have had very quick labours and he in fact has wrote on my notes "HOME BIRTH WANTED" as he feels that I would be safer at home than trying to rush to the hospital while in labour. I think alot depends on your midwife and the area you live in. I am seeing my consultant a week on Monday but that is just to have another scan to make sure she is not breech. At my midwife appointment last week she was head down so hopefully she will remain that way now
