We're trying claw caps with our cat... http://www.softpaws.com/?gclid=CPmrw...FSYbagodfGo7XA

He's also very clingy, so we're going to have to keep an extra eye on him to make sure he doesn't try to have 'cuddles' with the baby - he enjoys getting as close to my face as he possibly can..

x

Haven't read all the posts... just wanted to say:

I have 5 cats. Everything has been fine. I would just recommend making sure they can't get to baby when s/he is sleeping. They will sometimes lay on them and can suffocate them (not on purpose, just looking for a warm body to snuggle). This actually happened to me once and I have been very careful since (baby was fine as we were co-sleeping and I heard him having trouble breathing and woke in time... whew!).

Judge by each cat's personality. We have one cat that I don't really let near the baby as she is old, grumpy and doesn't like kids. On the other hand, we have another cat that loves any kind of attention and will put up with anything. The baby has laid on him and grabs him... pulls his tail, skin, ears, fur.... the cat just purrs right through it. The baby loves this cat. The other cats pretty much ignore the baby.

I have 4 cats and 1 baby and we've never had any issues whatsoever. Whenever they hear Ella coming they are all off like a shot out the catdoor! She's a very loud, whiny, screamy type thing that most cats just hate! We don't have any problems with them going in her room, they tend to just jump up on her window sill to spy on the neighbours cats! Sometimes one has been asleep under her cot and we've popped baby to bed without realising until we hear scratching on her door some hours later. They don't go in her cot, even if she's not in it and we have always closed the door when she's sleeping anyway..
I don't see why you would need to do some drastic like de clawing or even put those soft paws on....

My cats are terribly spoiled creatures who thought the nursery and all this perfectly cat-sized equipment (car seats, strollers, baby bouncers) was brought into the house strictly for their pleasure and amusement. It was quite funny.
When we brought Simon home, they showed a mixture of disgust and complete indifference that has since developed into a remarkable tolerance as he gets older and more mobile.
All cats are different, but it is rare that they wouldn't adjust.. My biggest worry was whether or not Simon would have any allergy problems, but even that isn't very common.
I'm sure kitty will be fine.

It really makes me so so sad to see threads like this. There is no need to get "rid" of pets just because you are having a baby. Animals are living creatures not things that just be disposed of. De clawing is absoloutly vile! And extremely cruel!!! Plus I'm pretty sure its illegal in the Uk thank god.

We have 3 cats, 2 of the cats will probably enjoy having the babies around and the third is a very solitary cat so she'll probably just stay out of the way lol. I will be using common sense when the babies are here like making sure I don't leave them unsupervised with the cats, keeping their bedroom door shut when they are in bed sleeping etc.

God its terrible about how many poor cats and dogs are put down every single day because people have bought them on a whim or aren't prepared to do some work when baby comes along.

I appreciate you're concerned for your baby but de-clawing! You should be ashamed of yourself for even considering it! You use your common sense with animals and babies and don't leave them unattended.

We have never used a cat net and nor have we trained the cats to stay out of the cot. The cats will get in his cot if he is not in it but if he is in it they will just sit on the chair next to the cot and watch him and won't attempt to get in it.

I know that not everyone will have cats as tolerant and chilled as mine but please don't think that cats and babies automatically don't mix.

Findlay having a nap in the kitten pen (he had a cloth night nappy on he's not actually part weeble!) with 3 x four week old kittens the other day, as you can see they are clearly trying to 'steal his breath' and all the other horrendous things cats apparently do to babies

GOEGROUS pic!

I just to say I hope you are not going to be so careless and get rid of your cat...
I have a fairly big tabby cat and a huge Rhodesian Ridgeback dog (over 100lbs) and when we came home with my son they welcomed him in to the family pack! It is a wonderful thing to see... Of course for the most part the cat kinda stays away from him now as he tends to be a little rough with him but even when he is rough, our cat just meows and looks to us for rescue LOL As for the dog they are best friends and they love playing with eachother. The animals know that the baby is a part of the "family pack" all through out my pregnancy (and I am sure this one too down the road) both animals could not get enough of me and my belly hehe! Good luck with everything...

I think she merely wanted some opinions from everyone but this is getting a little mean. She never said she'd do anything for certain so this is a little uncalled for. Please be nice.
