Info: dentists, xrays, wisdom teeth

I had a wisdom tooth out today. I also had a panoramic xray done of my mouth ( with my gyno's approval) just wanted to say that a lot of woman avoid the dentist while pregnant ( like me) for no good reason it seems. My dentist read to me that you would need 50,000 xrays of your teeth to get to the amount of radiation deemed bad for the baby. There is no problem with anesthesia for your mouth and the only sucky bit is that you cant use very strong painkillers your choice is basically only paracetamol.
just wanted to share.

With my first pregnancy I had to get 2 wisdom teeth out. And with this pregnancy I've gone to the dentist for a cleaning, and will be doing another cleaning next month. You should still see your dentist while pregnancy. Especially since tooth decay can happen faster during pregnancy for some women, and if you get a cavity the bacteria can start pre-term labor.

i have to see my dentist before this baby is born, i can book an appointment for next week on any of 3 afternoons as ds will be watched by DH , its just normally so hard to get to the dentist as i cant take DS with me caus of space issues at the dentist and i dont have someone to watch him

I read that you get more radiation from one day of sun than a lifetime of x-rays!

Oh thats strange. I went dentist a few weeks ago and he checked me over and said to book in again to see him once baby is born because he cant do any of the things he needs to do (xray, remove wisdom tooth) until after baby is born!! Maybe he was just feeling lazy! haha!! x

I go to the dentist every 6 months. They don't like to take x-rays if they don't need to, but will when necessary. I was 7 weeks pregnant at my last visit and so they didn't take the routine x-rays they normally would have.

They do in UK, they don't in USA, or atleast not in my state. They don't offer gas for a dentist visit either, only in select practices, but not very common in my kneck of the woods.
