Find out how YOU can help others after your bean's birth

Most people have heard of organ donation, right?
Well, have you heard of cord blood donation?

If you haven't, let me explain:

When you are pregnant all of the baby's needs are taken care of by the placenta. Once the baby is born, it no longer needs the placenta and it is usually discarded.
Now, here is what YOU can do to help! Donate your cord blood from the placenta and save another life! It is really that simple and requires only an "application" form.

If you would be interested in donating your cord blood please visit: NHSBT- The NHS Cord Blood Bank

It has alot of information about what your cord blood may be used for as well as stories from other parents that have taken the steps to save another life with their donation and people who have benefitted by it too.

Unfortunatly without prior permission your cord blood with usually be discarded and wasted. So, take a look and see if you can help save another life while you celebrate the life of your newborn child.

Thanks for reading and I wish you all a happy and healthy 9 months xx

Usually if you just google Cord Blood Banking you can find information on it in your specific area.

Sometimes if you wish to save it for your own use, it costs money... I know here in Alberta, it's $2000 if you wish to save it for your own use and no one else's. BUT If you were to save it in a "public" cord blood bank, where you no longer have rights to the blood or what happens to it, then it's free.

Such a great thing. I was going to do it, but never got around to getting the paper work filled out on time and sending it in...

Nova Scotia has no public cord blood bank one could donate to. Haven't heard of one in other provinces either but would be happy if someone could prove me wrong. It seems such a terrible waste.

I have heard that some hospitals are bringing it in 2010, you may get lucky hun! xx

Thank you to all of the ladies who have replied to this thread, I am pleased this is reaching so many people throughout the world and is striking interest. I am hoping if enough people show interest they might speed up bringing it to all hospitals sooner. xx
