These guys are a private, for profit company designed for you to bank your OWN baby's cord blood for your own use, for a fee. I don't have a problem with that, but I think there should also be a public cord blood donation program where one can donate one's baby's cord blood to the system for use by the next person who needs it, free of charge. As of yet, NS has nothing like that.

Strange that they wouldn't have something like that in place in NS yet... it's in a lot of the other provinces for public donation. Kinda strange...

If I hear anything about them doing this at more hospitals then I will certainly spread the word. I watched a documentary about using cord blood for people who are suffering with immune problems and have been keeping my eyes open for a way to donate in the Manchester area. At the end of the day, it's not like me or bubs will need it any more, so if it can be used for transplants or research that has to be better than it going in the bin!

I remember thinking this was a great idea a few months back and was then disappointed to see that the only hospital anywhere near me is Northwick Park, I believe. I'm having a home birth, so as it's not at that hospital, I can't have it done. Shame.

Here, hun. I'm going to do this as well if I end up with a good supply. The stuff is gold dust to my patients, so I'll definitely help if I can.
