I've never seen the video, refuse to watch it as i am sure it will be biased, but from what i know, they are given pain relief and such and shouldn't feel a thing. a Baby could be crying because the room is cold. I think hospitals are a bit more advance these days... |

I'm Currently Feeling: | I couldn't watch all of that movie. Stopped it under halfway. I didn't have the sound on but it still made me upset.
I would like to hear from someone in Aus who has gotten their son/s circumsised, as I don't believe it would be legal to do it without anaesthetic. |

I'm Currently Feeling: | Research has suggested that an uncut foreskin has some advantages- this reasearch from New Zealand:

APA (American Pediatrics Association) opinion: Quote:
The American Academy of Pediatrics revised their policy statement on circumcision in March 1999, and this policy is supported by the American Medical Association. Their summary of the policy is the following:
"Existing scientific evidence demonstrates potential medical benefits of newborn male circumcision; however, these data are not sufficient to recommend routine neonatal circumcision. In circumstances in which there are potential benefits and risks, yet the procedure is not essential to the child's current well-being, parents should determine what is in the best interest of the child. To make an informed choice, parents of all male infants should be given accurate and unbiased information and be provided the opportunity to discuss this decision. If a decision for circumcision is made, procedural analgesia should be provided."
| My DH is not cut either. I have 'experience' with both and much prefer the uncut myself. And because I have found no good evidence why a natural occuring part of the body must be removed, it is my position to leave my male children intact - and let them decide.

I'm Currently Feeling: | I don't like circumcision. I think it's sort of... weird, actually.
Men were made with forskin, and frankly, I think it should stay on there!
But to each their own, definately. | | | | Status: Offline

| Well, I do circs (Im a ped).
And btw, the use of local anesthesia is now routine here in the states, and has been for some time.
The procedure is shown the way it is really done, if you use a Gomco clamp (slightly different with other techniques) but I would NEVER EVER EVER circ a kid without lidocaine injection first (like you get at the dentist). The topical stuff really doesnt work (obviously, as that child is FREAKING OUT and IN PAIN - that is NOT a "Im crying b/c Im strapped down" cry).
With lidocaine injection, I wait until the kiddo is calm/asleep after the injection and generally, they dont freak out. I also let them have their arms up by their chests (kind of half-bundled) instead of strapping them down. No way around strapping down the legs, though. Most of them sleep through it when I do it.
We also give them a sugar water solution on a pacifier, which helps them be calm about being strapped down (doesnt work to keep calm if it's pain).
And that doc is a butthead, at least from his comments.

| I dont agree with it that is my personal opinion. My Oh is fine and he wasnt done. My friends lil boy had it done when he was a baby and he screamed for 3 days non stop he was in that much pain bless him.
People say its cleaner but a man should be able to pull back his foreskin and clean it my ohs is very clean all the time and never experiences pain.
