Slimming world is fab- you get to eat loads of really good food and I felt great when I was doing it- full of energy.

I don't know why I stopped doing it.

I haven'y put any weight on at all during this pregnancy and am 31 weeks. This is not intentional at all and is actually quite odd cos with my other 2 children i put on 3 stone. I was 4 stone overweight so it's not like I didnt need to loose the weight. My midwife is not at all worried even by the fact that this is not normal for me and I am worried. I havent been eating any differently, I always eat as I should (or i have done for about 2 years now) and have never lost weight and was actually put on pills a while before getting pregnant. My body just does not like to shed it. I am not complaining at all I must say. I am pleased tha I will weight less than before I started.

I would just say that as long as you are eating 3 meals within recommended calories a day and your fruit and veg and drinking lots of fluid it should be ok. xx

Slimmers world is a good idea, lots of healthy eating and they don't cut out any food groups. They tell you to add extra cheese/milk to your diet if you're pregnant, which can be 3/4 of a pint of skimmed milk X2 if you have extra.

It all works

But yeah don't cut any food groups and you should be fine, just wish I could lose weight now

Thanks everyone, I have been reading your replies throughout the day, but on my ipod and it was too much effort trying to reply there, so here we go...

How weird that they said this to you?! Slimming World isn't a diet, it's a healthy eating plan and one where they say you will "never go hungry" because of all the free foods that you can eat! Perhaps the doc wasn't educated on what it was and just saw it as a typical diet!? I wouldn't be allowed to do SW without midwife approval (although I could do it at home), so would definitely speak to them first, but can't see why they would disapprove really

Of course exercise is a big part of any diet plan and certain exercise thats good for pregnancy is also good for weight loss, such as walking and swimming. I was overweight when I fell pregnant and have now lost over 5 stone. This was NOT planned, it was due to hyperemesis but I continued to take vitamins and minerals and baby looks perfectly healthy and I feel better than I did whilst overweight despite spd and still being sick. All my bloods are normal, GTT normal, my skin and hair look great and so on. So even though I havent managed to eat healthily because Ive been so sick we are still fine!
Thanks for your reply, and the advice. Really good to hear that all is ok with baby, even with the hyperemesis, wow 5 stone!

Yeh, exactly, this is what I was thinking!

I am not sure what you are trying to say here? Obviously by me putting this question on here you can see I am trying to prepare myself???

All a dietician will do is tell you is the same things wev all been told at the doctors lots of times hun. My mam is over weight and got sent to a dietican when she was pregnant with my brother and refused to go. She knew what healthy eating is so there was no point in going.

Just to say slimming world isent a diet, its an eating plan. You can eat as much of the good stuff as you want, and only limit the things that are bad for you.
Thanks darling, yeh, I think you are right, that does sound like the most sensible plan

Wow, free SW vouchers would be nice!! I really hope that the MW and doc will be supportive as I want to be getting healthier each month and think this is the best way to do it.

Your best bet is to either try to get where you want to be before you get pregnant or (if you get pregnant before) wait until the pregnancy is over to work on losing it. Obviously eating healthy during pregnancy is the best thing but you should be consuming atleast 200 extra calories than you normally need each day for the baby. Dieting to lose weight is really not recommended during pregnancy. It denies the baby nutrients that it needs for organ development, puts you at risk for preterm labor, and can cause the baby to have low birth weight.

Also:

"Research from the University of Nottingham shows that pregnant women who diet excessively may be putting their children at risk for developing adverse effects of obesity later in life. The study was conducted on sheep, whose pregnancies are similar in length to humans and whose babies are born at a similar developmental point to human babies. The results of the study indicate that when the babies of mothers who had restricted diets put on fat later in life had a reduced ability to store fat, meaning the fat was deposited in organs like the heart. This increases the risk of metabolic syndrome, which in turn can promote heart disease, stroke and type 2 diabetes."

If you read above you'd see that I was not thinking of going on a restricted diet, I am wanting to follow a healthy eating plan. You will also have read that to maintain my weight I would have to eat nearly 3000 cals a day which is hard to do unless eating bad things. I can't see how that is good for the baby! Also, the 200 extra Cals you mention is not accurate, this is not needed throughout your whole pregnancy just the third trimester. Thank you for the quote about sheep but as you read it you will see that it refers to a restricted diet.
I was hoping out of this thread to get some experiences from people who have actually gone through this rather than a lecture about how I am gonna harm my baby.

I was thinking the same recently. When I got pregnant and for my first few appointments I had lectures from the docs/midwives about having a high bmi (its 27.5) but told I must not try to diet at all. Just eat healthy and not put on too much weight.
I'm fairly worried i'm going to put on loads of weight. I've not weighed myself since I got pregnant and neither has the midwife (thankfully!) so I have no idea if I have put on a lot of weight or not. I feel heavier definitely though. I'm just trying to do a bit more exercise everyday and not eat too much rubbish. I think that's the best thing to do.
I've found I don't really crave the rubbishy foods anyway and will eat a huge healthy breakfast and small lunch and dinner and I'm happy.
I wouldn't try to put too much effort into trying to loose weight and just try to avoid eating rubbish and do more exercise instead. That way you slowly change your diet and lifestyle without causing any distress to your body or baby.

Good luck!! XX

Mine was probably because have had very serious problems in previous pregnancys which resulted in my son being stillborn but my point is that at the end of day all diets are advised to be checked with docs before starting so that would be for the best.
