question - friend currently at ER...

she just shot me a text saying "there's nothing in my uterus, don't text back still at hospital"

i'm pregnant but i'm not sure what this means... can someone please explain?

my guess is maybe shes having ectopic pregnancy? how many weeks was/is she?

If she's still really early on (like, still in her 1st tri) then it's possible she has a blighted ovum, which means the egg fertilized and implanted, the sac formed and the placenta formed but the baby didn't for whatever reason. It's really the most common type of "miscarriage".

A friend of mine just went through that and it's horrible. Your body thinks you're pregnant and acts pregnant... your uterus grows and your body goes through all the motions but no baby ever forms. By the time you get near your 2nd tri, your body stops controlling the hormones and the placenta takes over. It then realizes there's no baby there and the body starts to flush the sac and placenta out.

Positive thoughts for your friend.

3 as in 3 weeks past ovulation or 3 weeks since LMP?

Either way, it seems rather early to see much of anything although at 3 past ovulation you'd probably see at least a gestational sac.

I hadn't even noticed the 3 weeks bit.

At 3 weeks, they aren't going to see anything, anyway. I barely saw anything at my 7 1/2 weeks scan (just barely a sac and tiny, little flickering heart).

At 3 wks the egg might not even be in the uterus yet either, The implantation usually occurs between 4-6wks.

It seems v early for them to see anything, but im sure the hospital will know what theyre doing. Was she bleeding?? in pain?? Good luck! x

If she hadn't implanted yet then she wouldn't even know she was pregnant. She'd still be getting negative tests. hCG isn't produced until after implantation. Not to mention, implantation occurs between 8 and 11 days past ovulation. In a normal, 28-day cycle, that's 3 weeks, not 4-6.
