Can we compare Ante-Natal Care geographically?

Having frequented B&B for a few weeks now, and also having read what others say on another Preggy thread, I'm puzzled? confused? amazed? at the different level of NHS ante-natal care some of us are getting. For example, some of you get home visits, yet I have to trek down to the local GP clinic. And on TV I've seen that our neighbouring PCT offers "active birth" sessions, but there's been no mention of that here.

I'd be interested to hear what levels of care other people are getting, elsewhere in the country. (NB I'm talking standard care, not specialist clinics for health issues.) If you could state your healthcare area (PCT etc), that'd be good to know.

Here's mine:

Central Manchester Foundation Trust

Notified GP of pregnancy at 6 weeks.
Scan at 12 weeks & 20 weeks.
Booking Appt with Community Midwife - at local GP surgery - at 13 weeks.
Further 4-weekly ante-natal checks with community midwife - again at local surgery - increasing in frequency closer to EDD.
1 x visit to hospital prior to delivery
3 x 2hr A/N classes in evenings at around 35 weeks + 1 x 2hr BF clinic

Thanks in advance!!!

I've had/been offered so far,

Saw GP at 9 weeks at surgery (wouldn't see me until at least 8 weeks)
Saw midwife at 11 weeks at surgery for booking in visit
Ist scan/nuchal fold at 13 weeks + blood test for combined screening,
2nd scan due at 21 weeks
Consultant appointment at 21 weeks as class as high risk (age + BMI) - would have nothing until 25 weeks if not.
Midwife at 25 weeks
GP at 28 weeks
Then appointments at 31, 34, 36, 38 and 40 probably with midwife but may be consultant/GP if any problems.

I can arrange visit to hospital later on and I believe there are 2 AN classes on offer but haven't had any info on them and to be honest have booked NCT classes anyway.

It's my first and it's Mid Essex (Chelmsford) PCT

I'm a bit odd (there's a confession for you!! ) but I am actually in the care of 2 PCT's!

My midwives and HV's are based with Hull and East Riding, but I've chosen York District as my hospital and I go to them for scans etc. (I'm geographically closer to York).

I've had 4 MW's appointments at 6, 9, 16 and 24 weeks and I have another this week at 28 weeks. I've had 2 scans at york at 14 and 21 weeks. I've also had a home visit from the HV which is standard for H&ER but not for York. York also run a different set of paperwork to H&ER which means that apparently I will have to fight to keep the paperwork I have been given as York will try to give me new ones!

My MW's appointments have been a mixed bag. I've seen 4 different MW's and 2 were lovely, 2 were less than impressive. I have to have blood tests this week as well as get through all the paperwork so hopefully I will spend longer than the 5 mins I was in last time! I really wasn't happy...felt it was a bit slep-dash.

ooooh I dont use GP's at all for midwifes only went to them to tell them I was pregnant been under the hospital ever since.

Im under south manchester I think.

Saw GP at 6 weeks (approx)
EPU scan at 6 1/2 weeks due to bleed
EPU scan to check again at 8 weeks (ish)
Booking appointment at hospital at 10 weeks
12 week scan at 12+2
Genetic tests at 16 (hospital)
Midwife appointment at 17 weeks (local surestart)
Consultant appointment at 19 weeks (also had a hospital stay then too)
20 week scan at 20+2
bleed so hospital triage at 21
midwife at 22 weeks (in my local sure start)
rescan at 23 weeks
midwife at 25 weeks (surestart)
Hospital admitance at 26 1/2 weeks
consultant at 27+2
GTT is at 27+4
Growth scan and consultant at 28
Anti D at 28+1

The hospital stays were extras but all the others were classed as routine due to pregnancy complications. Ie blood clots, high BP, vomiting etc etc

Will find out at 28 weeks how often im seeing consultant and if more scans.

The antenatal classes look rubish they seem to be an active birth one for 1 1/2 hours and a breast feeding one. All the others are aimed at under 19's

Although we are all part of patients choice so we shuld be able to choose classes elsewhere.

Thanks - this is the kind of discrepancy / inequality I'm interested in.

Wanna come along to mine instead? I'm sure I can ditch the OH and take a different "birth partner" ... even if that partner is almost as pregnant as me!

GP nurses appointment to confirm pregnancy- 6 weeks
MW booking-in appointment- 8 weeks
MW booking-in appointment- 9 weeks (finished off at home as not enough time allotted by receptionist for first visit)
Phone call off MW (!!) - around 12 weeks (as she wasn't happy with me having to wait so long for a scan)
Dating scan @ hospital - 14 weeks (+ MW appointment at their clinic)
Consultant appointment - 15 weeks (re. SPD & pelvic problems)
MW appointment @GP's - 15 weeks (wrong week booked for bloods)
MW appointment @GP's - 17 weeks (bloods)
Anomaly scan @ hospital - 21 weeks (+ MW appointment at their clinic)
Consultant appointment - 22 weeks (follow-up appointment re. SPD)
MW appointment @GP's - 25 weeks (routine)
Anti-D Clinic appointment - 28 weeks (routine injections of anti-D)
MW appointment @GP's - 31 weeks (routine)

Not sure what I'll have after 31, but I know there'll be one at 37 weeks.
