C-Section questions????

I have to have a section this time around and have already started to worry about things. I remember during my sons delivery (which was natural) I threw up, had horrid shakes, miraine from hell, and my epi failed.

I will address the epidural issues prior to anything, obviously

BUT

my husband seems to think that I will have the shakes and puke again. Is this true. I am totally freeking out. I know what technically happens during a c-section but what are the side effects?

Hi, I had a c section and when I was in recovery I couldnt stop my teeth chattering! it was weird. I guess it was kind of shock?? Dunno, but I had been in labour for 14 hours before hand so maybe that had something to do with it.

I also threw up but that was from having the gas and pethidene. I never had a migraine thankfully but I read somewhere that that is a side effect of an epi.

Im sure you will be ok. Bring up all your concerns with your doc and Im sure she/he will have all the answers.

Good luck!!

I had the shakes really bad the whole time I was in labour up until about an hour after my c-section. The nurses told me it was most likely all the cold fluids I was having by IV.

I was really loopy after coming out of the operating room.. like acting just plain silly.
I hallucinated a bit. Like I was in my room by myself (OH went with baby for a test I believe and I was still stuck in bed from the anesthesia) and I heard someone calling my name
I had a womb infection. Treatment was antibiotics taken orally for a few days.
My incision opened and was infected. Treatment was anitbiotics by IV, a 3 night stay in the hospital, and the wound had to be drained then packed and cleaned daily.

Hiya I had an emergency csection with DS1, and I had the shakes and the chatters after the operation and was told it was a normal reaction to the epidural.

I had a fab anesthetist who said to me "whatever you feel, tell me and I can give you some drugs for it. Feeling sick, scared, anything just tell me and I will take care of it." He didn't leave my side during the whole operation until I was in recovery and I felt really safe in his hands.

As I have never had a vag delivery I don't know any different but I remember being in pain about 10hours afterwards and being given morphine plus cocodamol (?) regularly. You can't move about for a few hours afterwards but I was on a csection recovery ward so the midwifes were great, just ring the bell for help with the baby or anything you need. They told me I would have to do a poo before they would let me home (they pop a suppository up your bum during the op I wasn't aware of this at all until a midwife told me afterwards!!!), but I am a bit funny about pooing anywhere other than home so I told them to get f*cked (was not in the best of moods after 46hours labour grr!) and with alot of foot stamping they even let me home after just 48hours.

Other than that all I remember is being really happy that my baby was here and we were both ok. Try not to worry, all you will be focussed on when the time comes is your baby, and if you feel anything else just ask your anesthetist for more drugs! Also take all the help that is offered and make the most of having people wait on you hand and foot, don't try and do too much too early (hard with a preschooler I know!).

Good luck you'll be fine

I had a spinal instead of an epi, and I got so sick. They gave me nausea meds in my IV three times during the surgery, and I still threw up everywhere. That was one of the worst parts of it, it was humiliating to be lying on my back not able to move and just getting violently sick everywhere. They said it was a reaction to something in the spinal, but didn't elaborate. I've never had a reaction to any other pain meds before, so I'm not sure why I did then... Also I was super shaky for quite a while after the C-section. As the spinal wore off and I was able to feel my legs again, it started to go away after. I felt very drugged as well, The first few hours are pretty much a blur to me.
Everyone reacts differently tho, I hope your experience is better.

I go in next week and will ask the doctor all of these questions. I like to be prepared for everything and I am realy trying to accept this whole c-section thing. Last time I had the option of emergency section or forcepts. I started to cry uncontrolably so the doctor made the decision to deliver via forcepts. That caused more problems then one could imagine.... and I was told by my OBGYN and surgeon that I can never deliver naturally again. BOO.

I am so terrified of a c-section that I was thinking of mybe trying natural again. My husband said no way in hell he will let me go through that again. Clearly a bad situation as I almost died and tore into my colon.

Just wondering if anybody had a scheduled c-section without any prior labor and had these things happen to them.

I had a planned c-section (never actually went into labour) and it was a most wonderful experience.

Had a spinal not epidural, pain was minimal (it was actually more painful to have an IV drip inserted for fluids).

Couldn't feel the pain in about 5 minutes. When they actually opened the tummy there was no pain, only thing I could feel was Daniel being pulled out. It is a strange feeling, you sort of can feel that someone is in your tummy but you don't feel any pain whatsoever.

Never was sick, never had headache. Was being able to breastfeed straight away.

First night in hospital was quite difficult (just because I still was in bed and had to call a nurse so she can bring Dan to me to have a feed).

In the morning had to get up. I would advise to take some extra pillows and when you get up to hold one pillow against your tummy.

Was able to pee with no prolems (there will be a bit of a stinging but not too much. I had Urinary infection and it was MUCH worse). Had the poo the same day.

Basically by the end of the 2nd day I was able to do everything by myself. On the 3rd day had a shower.

Scar healed AMAZINGLY well. Now there is just a very thin faint line.

It was a bit tricky to laugh in the beginning (again, hold the pillow against your scar), but apart from that it was easy-breezy

Just wanted to let you know that not all c-section experiences are negative.

Aw, and do bring HUGE granny pants to hospital (I got myself 3 sizes bigger then usual). They then don't rub agains the scar
If you have any other questions do ask

Ive had 3 emergency c-sections with the 1st one i was given general, with the other two had spinals and i was really sick after i had it but they gave me anti sickness drugs which did stop the sickness. I also got an infection after my 2nd dd when my scar started to open up but after my last one i was fine, i was out of my bed the same night walking about it just depends on your body and how you recover. I wouldnt try and worry yourself too much though

Thanks for the stories/advice ladies. I am really trying not to think about it too much as I know it is inevitable. I already have my date schedule for the section, which is 1 week prior to my EDD. I went into labor very slow last time so I am hope that I do not go into labor before the c-section date.
