I went to the doc today as I have some flu like symptoms and he's told me it's just a cold so that was a relief!

He said that the virus isn't behaving like most epidemic flus, which pick off the young and healthy (as oppose the seasonal flus which tend to worst affect the elderly and infirm). This flu is mild at the moment, sometimes only lasting up to 2 days, and not feeling much worse than a cold. He reckons tons of people have had it or will get it and not even notice. The 3 people who have died from it in the UK were already suffering from previous illnesses.

It seems like the drug the antiviral they offer pregnant women is actually better than Tamiflu anyway - less side effects!!

So in all, I'd say, yes, be vigilant, and obviously if you've got a high fever then take paracetamol to keep it down, lots of cold compresses and fluids, but don't worry too much as it just seems like the government and media are bigging it up massively in order to 'cover their backs'.

Hi Girls,

I work for a medical device company who has a plant in Mexico so we get all the updates about Swine Flu.

The latest we got is that it's less extreme than normal winter influenza and is spread the same way. The regular winter flu also kills about 10 times more people yearly than Swine Flu has. So in effect, you'd be better off with Swine Flu.

It's ridiculous but the press only want to sell news so news like the above ain't gonna get anyone picking up the paper, it's not dramatic enough.

The reason Swine Flu killed all the people to begin with is that is struck poor people with bad healthcare.
