Swimming during pregnancy

Hi,

Does anyone here go swimming at all? I heard from someone I work with today that it can actually be good during pregnancy, while I always thought I shouldn't go swimming! Does anyone know if this is true?

Just thought it would be a really nice way to cool down as much as anything else! Also, does anyone know where you can buy maternity swimwear in bigger sizes?

Swimming during pregnancy is actually recommended. It is low impact and provides gentle resistance of the water. It's a great activity for ur heart also. I just wish I had a pool to swim in daily! As for swim suits, I'm not too sure hun.

The only thing you have to be careful of is people kicking/bumping you underwater as far as I know.

It would have felt great to go swimming when I was pregnant!!

Have a look round your local pools - many run "aqua natal" classes. It's probably the best kind of exercise when you're pregnant, you are totally supported and it's relaxing. Just watch if you have PGP/SPD - no breast stroke but crawl is fine.

Lots of shops do maternity swimwear, Mothercare do a range, it goes up to a size 20 (and remember swimwear is really stretchy)

I go swimming basically everyday. It relieves pressure on my hips, helps get some exercise in, keeps me cool, and my daughter loves to go in with me. I would recommend swimming as much as you can. The only time you cant is obv if your water breaks.

I'm living in the pool at the moment in this hot weather! I can't say I actually swim though, more float like an upside down turtle

I love being in the swimming pool. I've started doing an aquanatal class and the water really does help all the aches and pains disappear.

Mamas and Papas do a range of maternity swimwear.

I am dying to take up aquatnatal classes but i've been so damn sick since 12 weeks i haven't felt up to it.

My local pool has a class every thursday though, although they're taking a break for the next 3 weeks and then starting up again, so i am hoping by that time i will be feeling well enough to give it a go.

I'm not a great swimmer but i like bobbing about and it will be nice during the summer for cooling down!
