I have never really thought about that.

I guess it would be good to be able to get hold of her if you needed to or what not but then the benefit of having someone you don't know.... you might not feel comfy talking to your friend about something... and so the midwife you don't know would be a better option?? Does that make sense?

Definately no. I like the anonymonity of it all... here's a complete stranger to deliver your child and then you don't have to see them everyday, or anytime ever again, cause I'd never be able to face them... It'd be all, "Youve seen me down there!" *avoid-avoid*

I wouldn't be comfortable with it, I mean if my assigned midwife was a friend. I know a good number of the community midwives through work and I hate it when they fill in for my usual one as it feels really awkward because they don't always recognise me and I don't know whether to say something or not, lol.

i'd like it, but unless they were a really good friend then i would be embarassed at them seeing my fanjita! but saying that tho, i dont think you care when it comes down to it!! my mum's friend almost delivered me. well, had she not had to move a week before i was born she would have done! but ithik with it being forces, you tend to know the people that deliver your baby anyway, specially seeing as my mum's a nurse!

I once had an OB who was a family friend. Saw him in church on Sundays. Went over to his house for dinner. I really liked him as an OB but in social situations it was little weird. To think he's seen me unclothed and examined me and he's friends with my husband (though much older). Every once in a while when we'd be hanging out with him the thought would cross my mind. Not sure if I'd feel as awkward with a woman midwife that was a friend. I think the whole issue was the fact that he was a man.

I felt silly though--there was always a female nurse present and he was completely professional.
