leicester NHS birth video

http://uk.news.yahoo.com/5/20090520/...t-45dbed5.html
Dont do links often so I hope it works!!
What does everyone think about this? My first thought was for all the girls who wont get pregnant as a teenager but may be traumatised and reluctant to have babies as an adult, or have serious problems or whatever.

I read an article about this in the news this morning and then checked it out on youtube, to be honest i was expecting it to be much worse than it actually is! I don't find it to be very graphic, and i think the message is pretty clear- think about what the consequences of what you're doing.

I don't know how much of an impact it will have on leicster's teenage pregnancy rates, but i don't think the nhs trust in question are doing anything wrong in trying to get teenagers to consider the issue. Teen pregnancy is a really sensitive topic and it will take more than a 'gritty' video to change attitudes to sex and contraception among young people. But perhaps if this video is shown as part of health education in schools and is followed by a discussion/debate in the classroom then perhaps it could be a good thing?

As for putting girls off having babies period i doubt this video would stop someone who really wanted to be a mum, there are much worse birth videos available online to scare yourself silly with...

I understood in that article that the youtube version was an edited version of the one the kids would see because it was too graphic and youtube had banned it in its original form, which is what bothered me because like you say kids can get hold of all sorts on the internet and for youtube to ban it!!??

Ahh so the one we can still see is the edited one?

Well i guess it must have been pretty bad then to be banned, because some of the stuff you can see on there is

I wonder what was so bad about it then. Curious now!
