Inductions

For those of you who had an induction, can you please answer a few questions for me?

I've been told that induction can make labour more painful, as it happens faster. ie you don't have the build-up of contractions and thus endorphins. Is this true?

If you were induced, what pain relief did you end up having? Do you think the pain relief you had was partly due to being induced over going naturally?

If you could do it all again, would you be induced or go naturally?

I've said through my whole pregnancy that I want to go naturally but now that I'm 40+8 I'm starting to struggle. I'm booked in for an induction on Monday which I am allowed to refuse as long as I let them monitor me. I still don't know what to do.

TBH, I dont think it matters whether your induced or not.. Labour effects everyone differently. I had a long labour of fast and hard contractions with no build up and I was not induced.

i have been induced twice i had the build up starting with period type cramps i dilated quite quickly but my contractions were on to of eachother, i was in labour for about 12 hours the first time and 15 the second. i did have to have my waters broken the second time which made things more painfull although i was greatful because it aloud me gaps between contractions.
i had no pain killers the first time and meptid (like pethadene ) then second because i was extremely tired

Well, the pain did come quick but it still built-up.

Gas & air, and no.

i was induced and for me was the worst thing in the world and it has put me off wanting more children.

my contractions were continuous as soon as they began without any build up, i was given epidural on advice due to speed of things happening, this didnt work so was given pethadine which had no effect on my body.

i would only have another baby if i could guarantee natural labour

my induction was like Lollylou's but unlike her I would go through it again! It's only a few hours (fingers crossed!) out of your life. I'd be induced rather than wait. My midwife said my placenta was looking really ineffective and so Alasdair wouldn't be getting nutrients very well. Obviously the placenta would have continued to deteriorate if I'd refused induction.

I had pethidine (didn't work), an epidural (didn't work) and eventually a spinal but that was for the csection. I used gas and air like my life depended on it!

I was induced and loved it- knew exactly what was foing on from the beginning. I was in active labour for 6 hours, though had to have my waters broken. I had Chloe exactly 15 hours after having first gel inserted (only had one) and only gas and air for pain.

If I did it again and was told I had to be induced again I wouldnt be upset or disappointed

Well, I was induced and it was definately painful, but since I have not had a natural birth as such I don't know whether it is more painful or not. I did it on Gas and Air, and it was a quick labour - only one hour 50 to have her. Oh I also had my waters broken and drip, so with that to be done it took about 4 hours. x

If I could do it again I would try to go all natural, but the thought of another induction does not scare me. x
